Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies
The position is placed at the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies at The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Umeå, Sweden. The department offers a creative and stimulating environment and perform internationally recognized basic and applied research, education and environmental monitoring in the research areas: animal ecology, aquatic ecology, molecular ecology and restoration ecology (see https://www.slu.se/en/departments/wildlife-fish-environmental-studies/research/research-areas/ ). Duties:
The researcher will mostly carry out research within the field of rodent and disease ecology. Fieldwork, using live- and snap-trapping of rodents and monitoring their predators is an integral part of the work, as is laboratory work that includes dissections, analysis of antibodies as well as RNA- and DNA-extractions. In addition, the researcher is expected to contribute to education by teaching courses and supervising thesis workers. Finally, the researcher is also expected to apply for both national and international research grants as well as actively communicate the science to society.
Qualifications:
The applicant should have a PhD in ecology or equivalent and very well developed skills in verbal and written communication in English. Good knowledge and practical experience of working with small mammals is important for the position. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent, and team-oriented candidate with documented experience in studying contact between rodents and humans. The candidate should be experienced in public health issues related to rodent-borne diseases and should be familiar with using serology and/or genetic methods. A documented teaching experience in high education and experience in rodent phylogeny will be a merit.
