Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences Plant Biology and Forest Genetics, Uppsala Researcher position Molecular Plant-Virus Interactions www.slu.se Faculty of Natural Resources and Argicultural Sciences is the largest of the four faculties of SLU.Our area of acitivity covers a wide range of disciplines, spanning over agriculture, food and biotechnology to natural resources, environment of landscape planning. Most of our departments are located in Uppsala, 65 km north of Stockholm. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher to take an active role in a research program related to mechanisms of plant virus pathogenesis and virulence. The project involves understanding the mechanisms of RNA virus movement and transcriptional reprograming induced the viruses.Research: The research of the department focusses on plants, but other organisms such as virus, bacteria, fungi, insects, yeast cells and even human cells are also studied. Our main areas or research are: the interation between plants and microorganisms, and other forms of stress; biotechnology and metabolic engineering; growth and development of plants; the regulation of gene expression; population genetics, genome analysis and the development of breeding systems.Species in use are modellorganisms such as Arabidopsis thaliana, Physcomitrella, tobacco and yeast, and crops such as rapeseed, basket willow (Salix), potato, barley, rye, wheat and cassava.Education: The department is responsible for basic courses and advanced courses in general and molecular genetics; gene technology;cell biology; plant physiology; gene expression; plant breeding; plant biochemistry and biotechnology; molecular interactions between plants and pathogens.Besides, the department contributes to various other biology courses together with other departments. The courses are part of the masters programs in biotechnology and natural resources, and the programs for students in agriculture and landscape architecture, but most courses are open for external students as well.Duties: You will employ cell biology, biochemistry, and comparative molecular genetics approaches to investigate how plant viruses move within the plant and supress host defence. This knowledge will be used to develop strategies to control plant viruses. You will work in a multidisciplinary team of scientists from the Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics, Uppsala BioCenter, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala. We have a stimulating international environment and the departments contribute internationally to basic and applied research on agricultural crops, forest trees, and model organisms.Further information about the department and ongoing research can be found at www.vbsg.slu.se. SLU is an equal opportunity employer. Please submit your application to the Registrar of SLU, P.O.For a complete advt: www.slu.se/lediga-jobb
