About this opportunity
In the Audio Technology section, part of Ericsson Research, we are pushing the technology frontiers in spatial audio, developing signal processing and machine learning methods creating a new level of immersion for future conversational applications and interactive media consumption, e.g., listening to music, watching movies, playing games.
We are looking for a researcher in the area of audio compression and rendering.
Ericsson has been one of the major contributors in generations of conversational audio compression systems and continues to drive the area. The traditional focus on improving the quality of conversational speech services is being extended to spatial audio formats and compression standards enabling new immersive experiences. Now there is an excellent opportunity for you to become part of Ericsson’s research team inventing new algorithms, implementing and evaluating them against state-of-the-art technology, and combining such algorithms in a larger context of Extended Reality systems. You will develop compression and rendering technology targeted for international standards set in, e.g., 3GPP and ISO/IEC MPEG, with the potential of being implemented in millions of devices and creating new value for people all over the globe. What you will do
Be working in an international team of extraordinary researchers including some of the key authorities and leaders worldwide on media coding
Get the opportunity to deepen your expertise in brand new media processing and coding
Contribute to the whole chain from conceiving ideas, documentation and implementation, testing feasibility, embedding in a larger system, to exposing them to the larger community via standardization or inter-company co-operations
You will bring
MSc. or PhD in a relevant technical area, e.g., computer science or signal processing
Experience or demonstrated interest in compression algorithms or signal processing in areas related to media processing
Proficiency in programming in high-level languages such as Python, C/C++
Further merits for the role are
Familiarity with audio compression algorithms and/or standards
Knowledge in spatial audio and AR/VR systems
Knowledge in real-time processing
Experience in software architecture
Experience in presenting results during standardization meetings, academic conferences, university, or industry events
