Researcher within Structural Engineering and Mechanics

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you a researcher looking for challenges in structural or civil engineering? Do you have a curious and creative mind, eager to learn and to find new solutions across disciplines? Wanting to make a difference?

We are looking for a Researcher within structural engineering and mechanics to join our team in Borås.

We offer an attractive workplace at a truly polytechnic research institute, with one of the largest experimental facilities in Sweden for R&D and commercial assignments related to materials, structural mechanics, and standardized testing. As a researcher at RISE, you will collaborate with dedicated experts in many fields of science and engineering, to address the challenges of our generation.

About the role
As part of our team of researchers, you will work with the conception, planning and execution of a wide range of research and development projects, as well as contributing to shorter industrial consultancy projects. Your main focus will be building and infrastructure materials, components, and structures. This includes geological materials, traditional and advanced construction materials, but also their combination in composite and hybrid structures. The scope of your work will also be influenced by your own competence profile and your research interests.

You will work closely with our industrial clients and partners, as well as with other research entities, both in Sweden and internationally. You will have an individual role, while being part of a research team, with close collaboration with your colleagues, including our experienced engineers and technicians.

The placement for this position is Borås.

Who are you?
As a researcher with us at RISE, we believe that you are committed and driven, with a curious and creative mind. You see solutions and opportunities, rather than problems. You seek collaboration and enjoy working in and contributing to a team, but you are also comfortable working independently, taking personal initiative and responsibility. You are well organized and have an interest in creating new business and projects, but also an ability to develop existing ones.

You have a university degree in structural, mechanical, or civil engineering, PhD (or licentiate). A profound knowledge in solid and structural mechanics is required, preferable also numerical modelling skills. An interest and aptitude for experimental work is expected. It is of merit to have industrial experience and experience of collaborative R&D projects. We are particularly interested in experience and competences to help us address challenges related to the adaption to climate change, sustainability issues, new and recycled materials, as well as digitalization.

We value our customers and each other, so you should have a good ability to create working relationships with both. You bring energy to the team and contribute actively to the development of a stimulating research environment. You have excellent communication skills (oral and writing) in both English and Swedish. If Swedish is not your native language, we expect you to invest yourself in acquiring adequate Swedish proficiency.

Are we right for each other?
We cannot promise you an easy task, but we can promise you dedicated colleagues and some truly engaging societal challenges to tackle. You will work in a dynamic environment with ample opportunities for both personal and professional development, where we want you to succeed and feel good. At RISE you get the chance to make a real difference!
