The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is seeking a Researcher/Senior Researcher for its peacebuilding research within SIPRI’s Peace and Development research theme SIPRI’s research on peacebuilding examines the role that actors, processes, and institutions play in promoting sustainable peace from local to global level.
Context
SIPRI is an independent international institute whose core mission is to undertake research and activities on security, conflict and peace. Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public. The Researcher/Senior Researcher will be responsible for:
• Conducting research;
• Disseminating research findings;
• Fundraising for own research and supporting larger proposals in Peace and Development;
• Mentoring junior staff (and, if applicable, management of research assistants and interns); and
• Contributing to the collective life of the institute
Requirements
• Quantitative and/or qualitative research methods background;
• Strong knowledge of issues related to peacebuilding, resilience, society-state relations, and peace and conflict research;
• Demonstrated knowledge of gender or previous gender research would be an advantage;
• Work well with others, including mentoring junior staff; and
• Talent for writing and communication.

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
• A university degree or degrees, in disciplines and topics relevant to this potition, at Master or Doctoral level, or publications to Doctoral degree standard;
• Minimum 5 years (for senior researcher) or 1-4 years (for researcher) of participation in research and writing;
• A record of publications that is commensurate with the length of time worked in research;
• Proven ability to work and deliver in small teams;
• Ease of working in oral and written English, with further language proficiency a useful advantage.
Contract period
Starting from 1 March 2021, or as soon as possible. The appointment will be, initially, for a two-year period, and renewable. The post is full-time, and the successful applicant will be expected to reside in Stockholm. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
