Are you a Design Engineer with good leadership skills and an interest in the manufacturing process? We are looking for a Robust Design Engineer to join the Robust Design & Tolerancing team within the Mechanical Architecture & Integration at Volvo Cars headquarters in Gothenburg.
The department Mechanical Architecture & Integration, as part of the unit Complete Vehicle Engineering, has the responsibility to lead geometric system development and integration of complete cars and platforms. Robust Design & Tolerancing is the geometry quality function in Engineering & Operations and is the base for the mechanical development work.

What you’ll do
As a Robust Design Engineer within the team Robust Design & Tolerancing, you will lead the geometrical development in your area of the car in the later part of the concept phase, and further implementation of robust design solutions into the engineering phase.
You will support the product responsible teams and the integration teams in the engineering work by predicting the manufacturing process outcome and effects on the systems, calculate the geometric requirements and develop solutions to minimize the effects of geometrical variation.
This is a very important and central role in our development process. The role includes to propose solutions for design and manufacturing as well as reporting in various decision-making forums. In time, we also think that you should wider your knowledge by working in other areas of the car. Good communication skills are required in this cross-functional role as you will build and maintain an extensive network throughout the company.
Main responsibilities
• Lead the geometrical development of robust design solutions within responsible areas.
• Support in implementing and verifying robust design solution in the industrial phase.
• Predict/ Calculate geometric requirements in used geometry software RDnT.
• Develop design proposals for technical solutions/manufacturing process.
• Perform benchmark studies on competitors.
• Lead the geometry development in the product responsible cross functional meetings/ Vehicle Integration meetings.
• Support the product responsible teams in dialogues with suppliers regarding geometrical issues.
You and your skills
We see that you have a university degree (BSc or equivalent) as well as basic knowledge of product development processes within automotive. You also have the ability to lead cross functional teams and meetings in different settings and arenas. You also have knowledge in CAD and Microsoft Office. Fluency in English, written and spoken, is a must and other languages is a merit. Experience from RDnT, CM4D, Team Centre Engineering and VisMockup is meritorious.
On a personal level, you are a positive and open-minded person who is analytical and well structured. You possess great communication skills and a courage to speak in front of larger groups. You have good technical- and leadership skills and are driven and self-managed, while being a good team player.
