The British International School of Stockholm seeks to appoint a dedicated school counsellor who will work alongside another counsellor, our Assistant Principal (pastoral) and the school nurse to support the well-being of the student body.

Main Responsibilities
· Work closely with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral) and other members of the team to;
· attend case meetings called by the Pastoral Team or the Medical Team
· evaluate referral of students, discuss needs and options for the most appropriate and available support in each case
· manage the overall caseload of referrals prioritising and allocating resources accordingly
· liaise and attend meetings with other departments in the school, external support agencies and professionals as required
· Split time between conducting school-wide needs assessment (preventative care/interventions) and providing short-term solution-focused counselling to groups and individual students
· Tailor school counselling programmes by undertaking schoolwide needs assessment surveys and review of student data e.g. (PASS, CAT4, attendance, student achievement)
· Develop the school counselling policy with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral) and the senior management of the school
· Maintain appropriate records for student referrals and ensure confidentiality is maintained in all aspects of work and provide termly quantitative data reports
· Provide advice to teaching staff concerned about a student
· Lead and assist in relevant staff and parent workshops and training
· Work closely with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral) in providing relevant in-service training for teachers, parents and staff of the school as required
· Undertake professional development in co-ordination with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral).
· Develop and maintain key relationships and networks with other schools, counselling functions, support and referral agencies, etc.
· Support the teaching of the PHSE programme

Professional Expectations:
· Degree in counselling or equivalent
· Qualification in child and adolescent counselling is desirable
· Practical experience of working with young people in a school and/or children's care context post-qualification
· Evidence of continued relevant professional development
· Accreditation with a relevant counselling association
· A demonstrated and genuine liking and appreciation of children
· Able to set a good example through presentation and in personal and professional conduct
· Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
· Resilient, flexible, adaptable and sensitive to the needs of others in an international setting
