A vacancy has arisen for a science and innovation officer to join the British Embassy in Stockholm.The position will develop scientific collaboration and R&D partnering events with Nordic researchers, and collaborate with network colleagues across Europe.Further information on the UK's Global Science & Innovation network: http://www.dius.gov.uk/dius international/science and innovation and innovation network
The main duties of the position will be:
To develop and manage bilateral and multilateral partnering events.This will include designing event programmes; recruiting UK, Swedish, and Nordic partner organisations, research groups and companies; collaborating with S&I network colleagues across Europe to identify and be a contact point for suitable local participants in European events; as well as overseeing practical aspects of event organisation, promotion, budgeting and undertaking post-event evaluation.
To identify areas where the UK could benefit from scientific collaboration or technology transfer with Swedish and Nordic organisations in new emerging areas..
To prepare, for a non-specialist UK audience, concise and timely reporting information on recent science & innovation policy and technological developments in Sweden, and to contribute to S&I corporate communications and reporting.
To support for science and innovation officials and VIPs from the UK to Sweden.
To act as S&I Nordics Team contact point with the British Embassy in Helsinki and to be responsible for developing relationships with key Finnish S&I contacts.In 2010 this will include organising one innovation event in Finland.
To develop a network of contacts in the UK and Sweden which will support the above activities and to produce a database of key Nordic research contacts (working to the Regional Manager.) Providing support to the Regional Science & Innovation Manager including internal S&I Europe meetings, and staying up to date with key science and innovation events and their outcomes in Sweden.
To play a leading role in the Embassy project team "greening the Embassy" to continue to drive down the Embassy's carbon emissions.
Overview of required knowledge and skills:
.degree education, preferably but not necessarily in the sciences
.an ability to handle a wide range of science-related issues.
.knowledge of key Swedish S&I organisations and sectors
