Role Summary/Purpose:
We are seeking a Scientist in the Expressions & Vaccines section to further strengthen the team around custom cell culture media development activities within R&D. The scientist to be recruited will also provide general support to the organization in cell culture bioprocess applications (CHO, HEK, other). The work will be in close collaboration with GE Healthcare R&D Logan (USA) and other functions locally and globally.
Essential Responsibilities:
The mission of R&D is to provide a steady stream of new products to meet and solve the challenges of our customers. An overall goal for GEHC Life Sciences is to become a total bioprocess solution provider. One step towards reaching the goal is to grow within the cell culture/upstream area. The Upstream & Consumables department is expanding into the area of customized cell culture media development and is working in dedicated teams to support specific customer needs. Responsibilties include:
To supervise, plan, execute and document project work to reach given objectives and to independently report accomplished tasks in writing or orally
To act as scientific/technical expert in the cell culture product development area, and to provide technical advice and support to colleagues
To play an innovative and creative role in identifying and evaluating new product opportunities
Take part in the scientific leadership in the cell culture area
To evaluate and implement new technologies
Strong External focus: Build and maintain networks and spread knowledge in entire organization
To contribute to the company?s scientific presence externally within cell culture area, by authoring of scientific papers and posters for scientific conferences.
To identify and propose external collaborations
Qualifications/Requirements:
PhD or equivalent competence from cell biology/biochemistry/bioprocess/biotechnology or related area.
Extensive experience from upstream industry processes with focus on cell culture work and optimization of culture processes.
Excellent mammalian cell culture knowledge and expertise in protein expression
Experience with media screening and development projects as well as knowledge of cell line behavior and component effectiveness.
Solid understanding of bioprocessing and upstream industry trends.
Proficiency to provide scientific leadership in a global organization
Ability to work and act cross-functionally in the organization
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Structured and organized team player with good interpersonal skills
Self-starter, energizing, result oriented, self propelled and able to multi-task
Demonstrated problem solving ability with proven analytical skills and results orientation
English and Swedish as working languages
Desired Characteristics:
Experience from development work in biopharmaceutical industry with focus on cell culture and/or process optimization for recombinant proteins
Strong background in cell culture media development
Statistical analysis experience, DOE software experience
Experience with scale up of mammalian cell cultures to up to 200 liter bioreactors and direct experience with single use bioreactors considered
Working experience with cGMP, GLP, scale-up of cell culture processes and method/process validation. Familiar with DOE and HTP methodologies.
Strong awareness of industry trends. Prior experience from work in a multi-cultural environment
