Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you an organic chemist with experience in large scale synthetic chemistry? Are you excited by challenging, creative chemistry and state of the art equipment for large scale synthesis? Then you might be the one we are looking for! Join AstraZeneca and apply your expertise in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life changing medicines.
The role
We are seeking a new member to join our Large Scale Synthetic Chemistry team as a Scientist. Working within our Early Chemical Development function you will be located at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Early Chemical Development (ECD) is a World-Class CMC department within Pharmaceutical Sciences whose responsibilities span from early engagement with Discovery Chemistry groups to manufacture of Phase II Clinical trial materials. Its key skill areas include Analytical Chemistry, Crystallisation, Isotope Chemistry, Large-Scale Laboratory (Kilo-Lab) Manufacturing, Process Chemistry, Process Engineering and Separation Science.
The Large Scale Synthetic Chemistry team sits within ECD and delivers high-quality API material in the range of 100-1000 g through development of excellent chemistry, innovative routes and creative solutions. The laboratory is the single company wide asset for large scale, non-GMP manufacturing of API for pre-clinical toxicology studies.
What you'll do
As a member of the Large Scale Synthetic Chemistry team, you will work closely with both medicinal chemists and process chemists to explore and develop safe, efficient and cost-effective synthesis routes to drug candidates.
Your main accountabilities/responsibilities:
*
With strong emphasis on safety aspects, explore and develop experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and synthesize organic molecules in the range of 100-1000 grams
*
Plan and perform your own work and actively collaborate with the drug project synthesis teams.
*
Demonstrate good skills in synthetic and analytical chemistry, purification and crystallisation
*
Rigorously document experimental results in an electronic laboratory notebook, as well as support the writing of campaign and development reports.
Essential qualifications:
A Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry or equivalent is required. It is likely that you have some experience of route development and large-scale synthesis of complex organic molecules gained in an industrial or academic environment.
You will have excellent collaboration, communication, and planning skills with a strong sense of responsibility, teamwork and delivery focus.
Other qualifications:
*
Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of organic chemistry, with good awareness of current developments in the literature
*
Able to apply new technologies and ways of working within large scale synthetic organic chemistry
*
Ability to independently design, plan and execute multistep syntheses to be able to manufacture kilogram campaigns together with team members
*
Creativity in handling a wide range of synthetic challenges
*
Curious and innovative mindset
*
Passion for solving complex synthetic problems
*
Excellent English, both spoken and written
