Scientist to Corporate Research

You will be part of Corporate Research in Västerås. Electrical systems are becoming increasingly important as key technologies in the global efforts to provide energy to the world?s growing population. As one of the leading engineering companies worldwide, we help our customers use electric power efficiently and increase industrial productivity in a sustainable way. At our research facilities all over the world, we develop solutions and technologies contributing to these objectives. In our research center in Västerås, Sweden, we are developing new materials for electrical insulation, magnetics and conduction. We are pioneering advanced concepts for power apparatuses and electrical machines and advancing power electronics to new performance limits. Other core areas are power systems, insulation systems and technologies critical for advanced manufacturing.

As a part of Corporate Research you will work in dynamic, motivated and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence and access to highly advanced laboratory facilities. Our teams are often internationally composed and we encourage job rotations as a way to develop your competence and to learn how to work in different cultures.
As Scientist at Corporate Research you will be part of a unique environment where you will be involved in activities that explore the frontline of technical development. You will lead your own, and participate in, research projects in the area of power systems, focusing on transmission and distribution applications. The projects will include: renewable power (solar and wind), system modeling and control, networks and converters. Looking at future global trends you and your colleagues will propose interesting and challenging ventures, which you will present to other divisions within ABB. Prioritizing among these, you will take part in strategically planned projects, which last over five years and will lead to new patents, publications and conferences that you will partake in. Apart from your main research projects, you will also be involved as project manager in other relating projects. This means that you will be involved in several interesting activities that challenge current technological limits and that will lay the foundation for your career with Corporate Research.

You have a solid theoretical background and hold a Ph.D. in Power Systems, specializing in Control. Adding to this, you have at least one to two years? industrial experience within the field. Moreover, you need to have project management skills and possess academic merits such as publications and keynote speeches. Other competences we are looking for are attention to detail, organizational and planning skills as well as the ability to apply strategic thinking to expand the current and future ABB portfolio.
