Role Summary
We are looking for a Scientist/Research Engineer within the field of particle and pore characterization as well as polymer characterization, with a focus on laboratory work. The role is with the Particle Design section of the BioProcess Media department, BioProcess R&D. The sections main activities are focused on the design and characterization of structured particles for chromatographic separation of biomolecules.
Essential Responsibilities
The main purpose of the role is to develop new and improve existing methods for particle/pore/polymer characterization as well as physical testing of prototypes. You will use existing methods and perform characterization work in running projects. You will also act as technical specialist and follow the developments in the fields.
Frequently used techniques for particle sizing are microscopy and image analysis, Coulter principle and light scattering; for pore characterization SEC, electron microscopy and diffusion NMR; for polymer characterization SEC-MALLS, FFF-MALLS and DSC. Experience of those and in addition experience of spectroscopy and/or techniques for determination of physical characteristics of particles and of packed beds, such as pressure-flow properties and column packing, will be seen as advantages. Statistical experience is crucial.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
-To independently plan and accomplish given tasks from Project Manager or Section Manager, to reach given project objectives.
-To perform characterization work of porous particles and polymers.
-To independently solve problems of "trouble shooting character" in project work.
-Act as technical specialist in the field of particle/pore/polymer characterization.
-Identify, implement new techniques and follow the technical development in the field.
-Document and report results both orally and written.
-To conduct all tasks within the frameworks of GE Healthcare policies and guideline.
Qualifications/Requirements
MSc/PhD in physical chemistry/polymer chemistry/material chemistry or equal experience; the position title (Scientist or Research Engineer) for the successful candidate will depend upon qualifications and experience.
A genuine interest in performing laboratory work.
English and Swedish as working languages.
Statistical experience.
EU work permit.
