The European Spallation Source ERIC, ESS, is hiring motivated and inspired people to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. ESS is based in the university city Lund, Sweden and is a partnership of 13 European countries.
ESS is looking for a Section Leader for the Automation within our Integrated Control System (ICS) division. The tasks and responsibilities of the Integrated Control Systems (ICS) division include - but are not limited to - the design, construction, commissioning and operation of control systems for the ESS facility.
About the team
The Automation team, is a new section with in the Control System Hardware & Integration Support Group. The tasks and responsibilities of the section include but are not limited to:
• Design, develop and test control systems using PLC technology
• Own and maintain automation systems in the ESS enterprise asset management systems
• Ensure that automation systems are adequately documented in the ESS document management systems and break-down structures
• Actively participate in work with deliverable and process quality
About the role
As the successful candidate and future Section Leader for the Automation you will:
• Interacting and be part of the Integrated Control System (ICS) management team
• Recruit and develop new as well as existing talents for the automation section and create a high performance automation team
• Procure consultancy services to cover transient resource needs in the automation section
• Manage procedures and administration for employees and consultants in line with ESS rules and policy
• Collaborate and specify deliverables for sub-contractors and in-kind partners
• Reporting weekly progress/issues/next steps to work package managers
• Support work package and project managers with technical competence as well as Earned Value Management project reporting
• Ensure that all work is executed in accordance with ESS quality assurance and safety procedures
About you
We believe that you full fill the following mandatory requirements:
• Master's degree or equivalent in engineering, technology or science
• 3+ years of experience from line management for control system development organizations
• 3+ years of experience from industrial automation using Siemens S7 and TIA portal
• 3+ years of experience from integrating control systems (preferably using EPICS, but experience from industrial standards such as SCADA is meriting)
• Experience in leading and managing engineers in a complex international organization
• Experience in recruiting and developing talent for complex international organizations
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Excellent oral and written English skills, including developing technical control system documentation in English
The following merits will benefit you in the role:
• 5+ years of relevant professional control system development experience
• 2+ years of experience from EPICS integration and development
• 2+ years of experience working with Beckhoff TwinCAT systems
• Documented experience as line manager at a big science facility
• Experience in system engineering and total lifecycle management of control systems
• Experience from complex, international technical/scientific projects

Duration & Location
