ESS is now looking for a Section Leader for Front End & Magnets for the Accelerator Division organised within the Technical Directorate. 

Job description 

The front end includes ion source, low-energy beam transport, RFQ, medium-energy beam transport and drift-tube linac, i.e. the normal-conducting part of the linac, and the section is also responsible for all accelerator magnets. The manufacturing of these components, contributed from in-kind partners in several European countries, is nearing completion, and installation in the accelerator tunnel is under way. The tasks of the section include to finish the installations, to continue with testing and commissioning of the normal-conducting linac, and to prepare for operations. The Section Leader for Front End & Magnets will manage and coordinate this work in close collaboration with the other groups and sections at the Accelerator Division and with the in-kind partners. The section leader will be responsible for budget and time schedule for these activities and for ensuring compliance with rules for health and safety and for fulfilling ESS standards for engineering and documentation as well as other programme requirements. The responsibilities also include the line management duties for the section which currently has eight members.

Qualifications:

We think that the successful candidate has:


• PhD or equivalent background in physics or a related subject
• Good knowledge of accelerator physics and technology
• Minimum 15 years of experience in the field of particle accelerators
• Experience in commissioning and operation of particle accelerators
• Demonstrated organizational, managerial and leadership skills
• Experience of working in an international environment
• Excellent oral and written English skills and interpersonal skills

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period
