Role Overview

The Senior Airframe Design Engineer reports to the Head of Structures and Interiors. This role will be focused on leading the aircraft door structural and system definition, comprising of primary and secondary structural elements, mechanical and electrical functions, and overseeing the structural/system related integration activities.

This position will have broad responsibility of the aircraft doors, both structure and system, interfacing with, and overseeing, internal and external teams, suppliers, and occasionally regulatory agencies. The role covers design, certification and testing activities. This position will also take part in establishing our ways of working, covering writing, reviewing and implementing group and company level policies, procedures, guidelines and templates.

Additional responsibilities include:

Aerostructures design, covering primary and secondary structure including: frames, skins, stringers, etc.

Door and door surround structural design including: Passenger/Service Doors, Emergency Exits, Cargo Door, Escape Hatch, LG Doors, stop fittings, roller guides, hinging, etc.

-
Mechanical systems design, specifically door mechanisms, including different principles, cams, rods, pivots, bearings, hinges etc, in addition to kinematics for mechanisms and door motion during opening/closing.

Development and coordination of the electrical/avionic systems and interfaces related to door status indication including the logic related to proximity sensors/switches, the Proximity Sensor Electronic Unit (PSEU) and the Crew Alerting System (CAS) system.

Writing and review of test plans, analyses, reports related to testing, design compliance etc.

Interface with internal certification specialists/CVEs, defining or assisting in the definition of the aircraft and system level certification programme, including the definition of the list of pertinent requirements, proposed Means of Compliance (MoC) and defining the way forward for any SRD (Significant Regulatory Differences).

Supporting door testing activities including, but not limited to: component testing requirements including subcomponent, component and aircraft level testing; DO-160 environmental conditions and test procedures for airborne equipment.


Qualifications & Experience

-
Minimum 8 years experience in an Aerospace structural design environment, covering aircraft doors structural and systems design/integration

-
Understanding of stress requirements, safety factors, loading conditions, F&DT, and structural certification requirements (CS-25 Amendment 27, FAR Part 25 Amendment 114).

-
Understanding of Hazardous/Non-Hazardous door requirements per EASA/FAA Part 25.

-
Experience with aircraft development programs (ideally in an OEM environment) through the entire design, development, certification and production lifecycle (EASA/FAA Part 25).

-
Applied knowledge/training on ARP4754 and ARP4761.

-
Understanding of the Human Factors aspects of doors including handle design/loads, operator stance, etc.

Understanding of the Occupant Safety aspects of aircraft doors including handle design, placarding, ground visibility requirements etc.

-
Working knowledge of supplier management/oversight, definition of supplier testing requirements and the documentation required to support the aircraft certification activities.

-
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or similar discipline.

-
Excellent organizational, analytical problem solving and strategic thinking skills.

-
High proficiency with Catia V5/V6 and PLM systems (ideally 3DExperience).

-
Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English.

-
Eagerness to work with others.

Passion for aircraft and Heart’s mission.


The ideal candidate would have

-
Experience working in an aerospace start-up environment.

-
Experience dealing face to face with the representatives of the certification authorities such as periodic updates, initial type board meeting, test witnessing.

-
Knowledge of elastomeric seals and the basic design principles.

-
Basic understanding of the RM&S system including Fault tree analysis, FMEA, Failure Hazard analysis, etc.
