Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Analytical Chemist to join our bold project team to play a key role in analysing and evaluating the raw materials and intermediate products for Northvolt production and development of Li-ion cells.
In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in establishing the Quality Control laboratory of the first large scale European factory for Li-ion cells. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon-free society. We are continuously building a team of experienced Analytical Chemists and great leaders with industry background.
You will be in charge of developing, defining and implementing the analytical methods for analysing material and intermediates for Research & Development and Production, reporting to the Quality Control Manager. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing quality standards, procedures and documentation associated with the analytical and laboratory work including running the analyses using a range of analytical instruments. You will also be responsible for reviewing the quality of new raw material sources and work with the R&D team to evaluate and compare material and product quality.
The Analytical Chemist will be an expert in analytical methods and instruments which includes deep knowledge in handling of instruments, interpretation of results and reporting. You have extensive experience from working in analytical laboratories and is used to structure your work in an efficient way. You will play an important role to support Research & Development and Production teams in analysing raw material and intermediate product quality and characteristics, collaborating with Northvolt Supply Chain, R&D and Production teams.
In general, you have a long experience in quality control, analytical instruments and laboratory work and work independently with a good sense of responsibility and commitment. Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working and cooperating cross-functionally in a multicultural environment with Supply Chain/Procurement, R&D, Quality and Production. You will be based at the facility in Västerås with part-time at the project office in Stockholm.
The candidate should be analytical and logical with an ability to identify opportunities and improvements to drive increased quality through data-driven approaches. The candidate should have strong technical abilities in order to succeed in this role.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Start-up of first analytical methods and instruments
Develop and document analytical methods and procedures for analysing and characterising new raw materials and product intermediates together with R&D
Run analytical testing on a range of instruments and report data/results
Specific expertise in XRD, Dynamic light scattering, ICP-OES, AAS, SEM/EDX, BET, contact angle measurement and titration
Develop and propose new analytical methods
Execute the Quality Control and testing plan of raw materials and product intermediates
Maintain the analytical instruments to a high standard
Work across many parts of the organisation, collaborating with R&D technical team, Process engineering, Supply Chain, IT & automation.

Education/Experience
PhD or MSc with five years of experience in an analytical laboratory.
Education in analytical chemistry
5+ years of relevant work experience in laboratory environment
Experience of laboratory and analytical work in relevant industry, e.g. Li-ion materials, Pharmaceutical, Food or Paper industries
Specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM
Experience in developing analytical methods, standards, procedures and documentation in an efficient way.
Project management skills and a successful track record of leading quality projects in a laboratory environment
Knowledgeable in Lean and six sigma
Familiar with SPC, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem-solving methodology
Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background
Specific Skills/Abilities
Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus
