Arbetsbeskrivning
A short-term position as Senior Assistant is available in the Department of Zoology, Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm. The position is supervised by Dr. Oleksandr Holovachov, as a part of the project "Soil Organisms in the Subarctic – SOS" in collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research and Norwegian Biodiversity Information Centre. The major goal of this project is to collect, identify and barcode mites, springtails and nematodes in subarctic soil types.
WORK TASKS
- Screening of soil samples for nematodes.
- Preparation of temporary and permanent microscope slides.
- Digital vouchering of individual nematodes.
- Identification of nematodes to genus and species level.
- Reporting data to NorBOL and BoLD.
- Submission of samples for barcoding to BoLD and NIBIO.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must have a masters degree in zoology or related disciplines of relevance. Experience in using light microscopy, microphotography, and identification of soil nematodes is highly desirable. The working language at the museum is Swedish, but the language within the project is English, and requires developed skills in English.
