Arbetsbeskrivning

Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

As part of our mission to enable the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way we have just presented the new EX90 and EX30 second-generation battery electric vehicles. The EX90 is powered by an in-house designed battery developed by our great battery team in Gothenburg. To follow this, we are now working on the 3rd generation electric vehicle batteries that will propel our future products. With these new products Volvo Cars aims to be leading in electrification and, in 2025, every 2nd Volvo sold shall be a battery electric vehicle. To deliver on this aim we will deepen our involvement in all aspects of battery development. Furthermore, we aim to expand our horizons outside of the cars to enable that the energy and power in our batteries can be used to power more than our cars!

What you'll do
To understand what is needed to design batteries that can be used outside of the car we are looking to expand our already experienced battery system team with a senior system engineer with knowledge and experience from designing stationary energy storage systems.

You will work with many of our skilled engineers across the R&D organization to create innovations for stationary energy storage systems, vehicle to grid etc. Work tasks include:
•    Leading the product development of energy storage systems together with a team of engineers
•    Determining the right system level targets and what technology is needed to deliver on them
•    Making innovative solutions to ensure that Volvo has the best technology around the battery cells
•    Ensure that the battery cells are integrated in an efficient way into the battery system, balancing cost, manufacturability and performance
•    Understanding how we fulfil legal requirements and standards when our batteries are used outside of our cars

The possibilities to develop within this role and within the department are large. Your contributions will make a difference! You will in your role ensure that we can leverage our long experience in on-board battery systems outside of the car!

What you'll bring
This position will suit you who have a true interest in green technology and innovations within energy ecosystems. This position is for you who can assume leadership in the creation of new energy storage solutions. You enjoy great teamwork and you have an easy way to connect and build trust with your peers.

Requirements:
•    M.Sc or Ph. D in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Chemistry or similar)
•    Substantial experience in Li-ion Battery systems for stationary applications
•    Experience from a Battery System supplier, Automotive OEM or Battery Cell Supplier

Knowledge about functional safety, automotive electronics, software development, CAE etc. is of course very meritorious.

Most of all, you share our values and can see everyone's potential. Your warm personality and eagerness to collaborate will be welcomed by all of us!

Want to know more? We hope so
