The covid 19 pandemic has shown us how important PPE is for the Health and Safety of employees : without any surgical masks it would not have been possible to restart production in most European countries. When it comes to Personal Safety, the Segment Leader plays a key role in securing PPE and Work Wear for Volvo Group operations selecting the best partners and in line with Volvo Group Health & Safety strategy.
When it comes to Industrial Supplies, the Segment Leader is responsible for all products useful for the production sites : it goes from furniture and power tools to support products such as hand tools, cleaning products and even bicycles!
The scope of supplies is very diversified with major challenges in optimizing the supplier base & product rationalization, as well as building partnerships with key suppliers
Who are we?
Our team is part of Volvo Group Purchasing and belongs to the Investment & PIC department, which represents a yearly spend of 10,3BSEK.
Our department in Services Digital & Investment provides the Volvo Group plants with the products they need to secure production of our trucks/buses/wheel loaders etc…
We are also in the driving seat to drive transformation of our business from a sustainability and digitalization point of view. We capture innovations from our suppliers and contribute to Industry 4.0 challenges.
Our team specializes in Packaging & Industrial Consumables and we are 12 people located in Sweden and France.
You will be based in Lyon, France or Gothenburg, Sweden and you will work with our plants in : Gent, Bourg, Blainville, Vénissieux, St Priest but also with other stakeholders like GTT/Brands.
As a Segment Leader, you will interact with all the regions (Europe/US/Brazil/Asia etc…). Therefore, this role requires some occasional travels to mentioned locations and to some of our suppliers.
What will you be doing?
As our Segment Leader for Industrial Supplies and Personal Safety, you will secure that the global segment strategy (segment business plan) is implemented through the selection of the right suppliers. You will collaborate with local, regional and global counterparts as well as internal stakeholders in order to get the best possible results for Volvo in terms of Quality, Delivery, Cost, Features, Technology while ensuring Volvo’s long-term Sustainability and managing Risks (QDCFTSR).
You will drive the transformation of your segments in the areas of sustainability, digitalization, partnership, and new business models. You will be supporting our operations with the gradual switch from conventional to electric vehicles
You will also :
Lead the global network of commodity buyers, securing synergies & best practice sharing. Actively participate in the strategic line activities
Develop the segment business plan (strategy) and action plan together with the buyers, as well as key stakeholders to support Volvo’s strategic objectives. You will ensure cross functional alignment
Lead Global segment negotiations
Support Commodity buyers as escalation in negotiations, supplier issues for global segments
Interact as key contact with the Global stakeholders and secure early involvement of GTP
Execute local/regional/global sourcing activities within the segment to the defined project timelines and approved sourcing strategies. Carry out global/regional contract negotiations and management
Contribute to regional and global KPI target fulfillment.
Identify and drive synergies with other Business Areas when relevant and share best practices within the Volvo Group
Bring together innovations for your segments
Be in charge of segment administration

Who are we looking for?

Master’s degree in Science, Engineering or Business Administration
Solid purchasing experience
Excellent spoken and written English
Business and service oriented
Strong negotiation skills
Ability to work in cross-functional teams
Excellent communication skills and strong interest to develop good relationships with stakeholders and team
Positive mind-set with high energy and thinking out of the box
Management of priorities, ability to independently drive and complete tasks
Experience of working with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), driving cost improvement opportunities
Motivated by change management and ability to drive change
International experience is meriting
