Symcel is a Swedish medtech company that develops and sells analytical instrument solutions for measuring cell metabolism with high sensitivity. The company is located at Karolinska Institute campus in Solna with modern facilities including sales, marketing, production and R&D labs. Hays Life Science is pleased to support the development of Symcel's organization, that are growing their business within the in-vitro diagnostics segment. You will be an essential part of the product development team with internal and external experts, developing a new rapid IVD diagnostic system as well as a second-generation R&D instrument. The team consist of talented and experienced individuals, and Symcel strive for a lean organization where each individual counts.
Your new role
As Senior engineer, you will be a key member of the Engineering/Product Development team and play a central role within product realization as responsible for running design & development projects in close collaboration with Symcel research & application team as well as Operations. An increasing number of external development partners are involved in the development, and you will to a large extent lead daily interactions with both internal and external colleagues.
In the role, you will:
* Own, execute and monitor technically complex projects right from scoping to implementation
* Create specifications for new product development
* Assist in development of new product concepts and system architectures
* Execute requirements of new product development project plans within a Design Control environment with creativity, resourcefulness and accountability to timelines and budgets
* Responsible for establishing and maintenance of design portfolios of all Symcel products
* Drive, document and interpret specifications and corresponding testing
* Conduct risk management and usability studies
* Participate in design review with engineering teams
* Provide design options & tradeoff analysis to meet the product requirements
* Collaborate closely with the team members to create solutions with compelling design and form-factors that meet design inputs, i.e., functional requirements, cost goals, regulatory, safety, environmental, reliability and interface standard compliance requirements
What you'll need to succeed
* Masters or bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field or equivalent
* Min 5-8 years' experience in medical device or IVD design and development
* Project management experience
* Strong communication and collaboration skills
* Self-motivation with the ability to accomplish project goals with minimal supervision
* Good documentation practices
* Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects, tasks & programs to suit business needs
* Experience of working with cross-functional teams with clear focus on customer needs, cost and reliability of solutions provided
* Good knowledge on the compliance requirement & regulatory landscape within the life science industry such as such as ISO 13485, FDA QSR, or similar
* Good understanding of relevant product design standards, UL, CE low voltage directive and EMC requirements
* Knowledge of Software & Firmware Engineering principles
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Being flexible, pro-active, curious and goal oriented
