Here is your opportunity at AstraZeneca, we are seeking Senior Scientists within Translational Hepatic Safety to join us at AZ Gothenburg in Sweden, where research-led ideas are turned into new medicines that make a real difference in healthcare.

Main duties and responsibilities

* Design and deliver in vitro experimental data to support projects across the portfolio and in line with the liver organ strategy and mechanistic problem solving needed to de-risk projects
* Develop and deliver expertise in drug metabolism, biomarkers, 3D model technology with respect to the liver organ strategy
* Scientific leadership to use in depth hepatic toxicological expertise to develop and implement scientific methodology for projects, or provide specialist technical input and problem solving into toxicology issues with projects
* Evaluation and validation of the translatability of novel physiological hepatic models
* Use technical expertise and apply knowledge to lead groundbreaking projects in order to exploit new technologies and influence their adoption within AstraZeneca
* Sharing experience, knowledge and industry developments with peer scientists
* Responsible for supervision of students if required
* Interaction with staff on all levels and from all fields and areas, e.g. toxicologists, pathologists, DMPK scientists and project teams

Essential requirements

* A PhD level education (alternatively equivalent training experience) in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biomedical Science or related field
* Significant experience in a relevant scientific field
* Extensive experience in the area of liver biology, hepatic injury, drug metabolism
* Extensive training in cell culture, sterile work and 3D culture e.g. spheroids
* Expertise in either novel in vitro hepatic models, hepatic biomarkers, BSep / bile acid transport, reactive metabolites, cholestasis, mitochondrial toxicity or related mechanism of hepatic toxicity providing specialised competence in that area
* An ability to think and act creatively both independently, and within teamworks
* Highly motivated, innovative scientist with the ability to influence and with a team-oriented approach
* Excellent English language skills, both spoken and in writing

Desirable requirements

* A detailed understanding of drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics
* Knowledge of lab automation tools for making in vitro work more efficient
* Scientific experience in liver disease area including NAFLD, NASH, etc.
* Theoretical knowledge and long term experience of relevant techniques and technologies
* Well founded understanding of AstraZeneca's business objectives that are related to R&D
