Volvo Cars, Global IP team in Gothenburg is looking for a new team member who is an experienced IP Lawyer to provide general intellectual property law advice and be a business partner to the organization reporting to the Chief Intellectual Property Officer. You will join a high-performing team who focuses on supporting our ambition to lead the global automotive industry in safety technology, electrification and autonomous drive.

What you will do
As part of the Global IP team at one of the most respected and recognizable car brands in the world, you will have the opportunity to drive change, work with continuous improvement and take on all types of challenges, big and small, in a truly dynamic environment.
In this role you will, together with your colleagues, provide legal support regarding all kinds of IP rights, with a focus on software, patent and copyright. This involves independently handling and assuming full responsibility for all kinds of intellectual property law issues arising from development, procurement, and other commercial agreements, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating IP (patent, trademark, software, and/or data) license clauses and agreements often with high complexity and advanced technology. This also includes conducting infringement investigations, preparing cease & desist letters, supporting patent infringement litigations and our open source compliance.
Furthermore, we value your ability to be leading and coaching more junior IP lawyers and paralegals and manage outside counsels and service providers in IP matters.
Finally, you will be a translator of IP law advice to actions that deliver business value and tangible benefits, as well as support increasing IP awareness and driving the strategic IP agenda.
All this includes a close interaction with the Global Intellectual Property team at Headquarters as well as in US and in China, as well as the other parts of Group Legal & Corporate Governance, R&D, Design, Procurement and many other parts of the organization and related entities.
Who you are
In your professional life, before applying for this job at Volvo Cars, you have obtained a Master of law or similar qualifying you to practice law in at least one relevant jurisdiction. To be relevant for this role, we see that you bring at least eight years of experience in practicing IP law at a law firm and in-house.
You bring an understanding of and proven interest in high-tech, including software and data licensing. and significant exposure to legal aspects of open source software and collaborations. Exposure to licensing relating to technical standards. will be considered a merit.
All in all, we value if you are highly experienced and knowledgeable in all IP legal areas required to fulfil the key responsibilities. With this goes also proven analytical skills and experienced in making decisions, negotiating and developing solutions or judgments within relevant IP areas.
As a person you are business- and service minded, structured, detail oriented and have focus on getting things done. You enjoy identifying improvement areas and embrace change and you meet deadlines and are fine to work under time pressure from time to time.
You are a true team player and enjoy supporting colleagues. Because the Intellectual Property teams manage very strategic and sensitive matters, integrity is natural for you. You also must be excellent at working and writing in English.
