Arbetsbeskrivning
The research performed at the Institue of Biomedicine focus on cells and tissues, their composition, how they work, how their function is controlled by genes and the environment, and how these different factors interact. With this knowledge, we aim to determine the molecular mechanisms of disease and to find new or improved diagnostic and treatment options.
Subject area
Anatomy
Subject area description
Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body. In Swedish tradition, anatomy comprises only the macromorphology whereas micromorphology is assigned to the subject of histology. Anatomy is of fundamental importance to the healthcare sciences, especially to medicine where this subject plays a crucial role in the basic training of physicians. In addition to general anatomy, there is a growing number of applications e.g. in surgery and radiology.
Job assignments
The assignment include teaching and pedagogical development work within the anatomy curriculum of the medical training program including general anatomy, anatomical dissection, radiological anatomy and functional anatomy. Course leadership in the subject and other teaching administrative tasks may also be assigned tasks.
The position may include a part time assignment as director of KAT (the Surgical Anatomical Training Center), a unit that develops and conducts wet lab courses for surgeons under combined superintendence of the university and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Administrative and leadership tasks within the university organisation and cooperation with external organisations may also be included.
Research and PhD training, preferably in one of the research fields of the institute, such as biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, or pathology or in medical pedagogics are included assignments.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Sectioni 2-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
For a position as senior lecturer the applicant must have av PhD degree and demonstrated pedagogical skills. Eligibility for this specific position in addition requires basic medical training, a PhD degree in a medical subject and demonstrated teaching experience in anatomy at the university level.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter4, Section 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Pedagogical skills are considered more important than scientific skills. For assessment of pedagogical skills, teaching experience in theoretical, dissection and wet-lab teaching as well as experience from course leadership in anatomy, is of special importance. The assessment of scientific skills is based on the quality and originality of the scientific production, the ability to plan and lead independent research and PhD training, and the ability to communicate science with society at large. Documented ability to obtain external funding is also creditable. A merit is also administrative skills, preferably from experience in a leading position. Documented ability to cooperate with other disciplines and organisations outside the university, for example with health service providers is valuable.
