We are looking for a senior lecturer in biomedicine towards molecular virology, molecular genetics and vaccine development for a permanent position at the School of Medical Sciences.

Background
Örebro university is a modern and rapidly expanding university with internationally recognized research and was last year ranked as number 75 when Times Higher Education ranked the young universities in the world , and as number 29 based on the citation frequency for published articles.
The Medical School at Örebro University started the spring semester 2011 and the first students were examined in the spring semester 2016. From the autumn semester 2021, the new 6-year Medical School was launched. The department also has an international master's program in experimental medicine and an extensive doctoral program.
The need for an increased ambition to cure, combat and prevent viral diseases (such as Covid19) has been recently highlighted at Örebro University. Several research groups at Örebro University are working to develop new platform technologies for vaccine development. A main track in research sheds light on various aspects of vaccine development to combat viral epidemics / pandemics with a special focus on flaviviruses. To be able to fight positive RNA viruses, e.g. coronavirus and flavivirus, a deeper understanding of the genetics, cell biology and immunology of these pathogens is needed.
Duties and responsibilities
At Örebro University, a senior lecturer is expected to spend their working hours on teaching at all levels, research, and any associated public engagement activities. In a long-term perspective, the university lecturer will conduct and develop research in molecular virology, genetics and vaccine development. In addition to education, research and collaboration, duties and responsibilities include development work, administration and continuing professional development. Moreover, teaching encompasses supervision, examination, course development, planning and evaluation.
During the first 4 years, the lectureship contains 50% externally funded research funded by the Knowledge Foundation and 50% teaching and administration funded by Örebro University. After this, there is still an opportunity for research time in the position, provided that own external funds for this are obtained.
Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are applicants who have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a doctoral degree in a subject matter relevant for the position, or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the duties that it will involve.
A general eligibility criterion for teaching staff at Örebro University is that they have completed courses on teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to 10 weeks. Knowledge and skills equivalent to such courses may also be assessed to establish whether these provide eligibility. A teacher who at the time of appointment lacks such training or the equivalent competence, must complete the required courses no later than within two years of taking up the position.

This is a permanent full-time position(100 %). At Örebro University, salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, and positions announced are, where appropriate, subject to a trial period.
