The subject area Computer Networks has been active in three years.It is established with one senior lecturer (i.e.Associate Professor) and three Ph.D students.Further expansion is necessary to secure stability of this area, which is part of the Computer Science and Engineering M.Sc.program.To strengthen the subject with senior level teaching and research capacity, develop the competence within wireless networking in general, and develop research in close cooperation with industry related to the subject area the department aim at hiring one additional senior lecturer.
Description of the subject
The subject is Computer Networks and the research area is Wireless Communications.Current focus is on wireless multi-hop access networks, a.k.a mesh networks, wireless networks for short distances and embedded systems, a.k.a sensor networks, and future network architectures related to these types of networks.Research within this area is conducted with a combination of formal analysis and experiments done through simulations, controlled testing, and when possible, with use of prototypes.Computer Networks is generally characterized by that solutions and protocols to a high degree are subject to standardization.The subject area is close to industrial applications and is relatively applied.Collaboration with the industry exists and is successful, but needs to be further strengthened.
Duties
A senior lecturer is expected to teach on undergraduate level, conduct own research and supervise graduate students.The latter includes recruiting, funding, supervision, and examination.Contacts with national and international research groups should be established and developed, and active work for attracting external funding is expected.Furthermore, active collaboration with industrial partners is expected, in order to further improve the cooperation between academia and industry.
Eligibility qualifications
To qualify for appointment as a senior lecturer, one must possess a doctorate or corresponding scientific competence, or have other professional skills which are of importance in view of the subject contents of the appointment and the work duties pertaining to the appointment; and must have completed educational training at university level or in some other way have acquired the corresponding skills, and must have documented teaching skills.
Equal consideration shall be given to assessing the teaching skills as to the assessment of other circumstances providing the qualification grounds.
