The Department of Design is located in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, one of Linnaeus University's five faculties. Duties
Your main duty will be to use teaching and research as tools to develop students’ and colleagues' understanding of design practices and their impact on peoples’ living conditions in line with the department's focus on sustainability, curiosity and design as catalysts for change. Competence and practical experience of research and work in the field of contemporary design as change making is considered a particular merit, including an engagement with relevant critical and theoretical frameworks in the broad remit of sustainability, norm-criticism and the ability to work across practice and theory.

As an employee you will follow and support the development of design practices and associated disciplines such as design history and theory, with special emphasis on sustainability and social engagement.

Your main duty will be to conduct education in design on under- and postgraduate levels and to act as programme coordinator with responsibility for a specific programme. The position includes conducting research in line with the department's research platform and applying for external funding.

Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of Senior Lecturer in an artistic field, you must have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency. You must also have obtained a PhD in the arts, demonstrated artistic ability or have some other professional competence of relevance, taking into account the subject content of the position and the duties which it will include (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 4).

In accordance with Linnaeus University’s employment regulations, “pedagogical proficiency” refers to the planning, conducting and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination.

Artistic ability must have been demonstrated via a documented high level of artistic and professional competence, and must show a critically reflective approach to professional practice including a familiarity with relevant critical and theoretical frameworks.

To be qualified for this position, the applicant must also have a well-developed ability to cooperate and a proficiency to utilise an understanding of the synergies between theory and practice in teaching, research and other work.
The Department's programmes are in English, meaning that an ability to and experience of communicating in English, orally and in writing, is required.

Assessment criteria
We consider the following assessment criteria to be of high priority:
The proficiency required for the position's eligibility requirements shall constitute the assessment criteria for the appointment of a Senior Lecturer. The examination of pedagogical proficiency will be given the same weight as the examination of artistic ability.

The Department of Design has a focus on social engagement and sustainability, and we consider the practical experience of design work focussing on different perspectives on sustainability to be of great advantage. The applicant must also have well-documented experience of teaching on artistic design degrees, a familiarity with relevant critical and theoretical frameworks, and a keen interest in developing critically informed perspectives on contemporary and emerging design practices. Experience of course and programme coordination on under- and postgraduate level is also considered an advantage.

Other advantages:
The successful applicant should have good international networks in the field of contemporary design, and experience of collaborating with different societal sectors on a regional, national and international level. We also view the experience of inter- and transdisciplinary work and work the spans across artistic and theoretical practices as particularly advantageous.

Successful applicants will be those deemed to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing the work tasks in question, and for contributing to the successful development of the organisation.
