The Institute of Biomedicine has broad and extensive research and teaching activities with focus on the living cell, how it works and how it interacts with its environment. The research conducted ranges from analysis of the cell's smallest components to the development of clinical methodology in close interaction with the healthcare system. This breadth is also reflected in our teaching in the pharmacist, physician, dentist, nurse and biomedical analyst programs. The department teaches subjects such as cell biology, clinical chemistry, genetics, pathology, anatomy, histology, microbiology and infectious diseases.

Subject area description
Histology is the study of tissues and their structure. Histology refers to functional issues in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Histology is a subject of fundamental importance for medicine, dentistry, health and care sciences.
Job assignments
The position is as a teacher in histology with a focus on cell biology and research in one of the department’s research areas. Assignments include teaching in the subject area of cell biology at undergraduate and advanced levels on the medical and dental programs, but teaching in other programs and education areas and/or in related subject areas may also be included. The position also involves working with the development of cell biology courses within the medical and dental programs. Tasks also include research in one of the department's research fields, as well as teaching and supervision in postgraduate education. Administrative tasks and assignments within the department and the Faculty of Medicine are also included. Management of staff and activities within teaching in the capacity of, for example, course leader/course coordinator will be included.
Eligibility
Eligibility criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4 (Sections 3-4) of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's own employment regulations.
The eligibility requirements are a doctoral degree in cell biology or another subject that the employer deems equivalent as well as demonstrated pedagogical skill. Teaching will be conducted in Swedish and the applicant must therefore master written and spoken Swedish.
Assessment
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4 (Sections 3-4) of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's own employment regulations.
In the assessment, the first criteria for assessment will be pedagogical and scientific skills, which will be weighted equally.
When assessing the pedagogical skills, consideration will be given to skills in planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as of examination. Experience of course development work and course leadership is a strong merit. Well-documented and solid subject knowledge in histology and cell biology is a prerequisite for the current employment.


When assessing scientific competence, special emphasis will be placed on independent research initiatives, the ability to plan and lead research and postgraduate education, and the ability to attract research grants.
Administrative ability, experience of collaboration with the surrounding society and ability to collaborate will also be taken into account.
Applicants who do not have a higher education pedagogical education are expected to undergo such within one year of starting employment.

The employment is a full time permanent post and is located at The Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employmet is by agreement.
