The Department of Technology Management and Economics, Chalmers University of Technology is now recruiting a Senior Lecturer in Logistics to the Division of Supply and Operations Management.
We are looking for a new faculty member in logistics, focusing on development, planning and control of industrial materials supply and distribution systems. This includes researching activities, resources and processes at a detailed operations level as well as their functions in supply chains and networks. New data and information technology developments, automation, as well as sustainability needs and circular material flows, are focused drivers and enablers of the future of this subject area.
Information about the department and division
The Department of Technology Management and Economics broadly researches the interaction between technology development, industrial systems, society, people and the environment. The department is organized in six divisions for research and teaching. The details of the departmental research activities may be found here.
The Division of Supply & Operations Management, at which the position is placed, includes three related subjects: Production logistics, Operations management, and Industrial marketing and purchasing. This position is part of the research environment within Production Logistics. It also relates to the logistics research at the Division of Service Management and Logistics. Our research is problem-oriented, empirical and inter-disciplinary, with strong emphasis on industry and societal relevance and high visibility in leading academic journals. Perspectives vary between process, firm, supply chain, and operations network levels, and includes manufacturing as well as service and healthcare operations. Teaching and supervision at all levels (BSc, MSc, PhD, executive) are important tasks, and are clearly embedded in research and practical relevance.
Major responsibilities
The core subject area is logistics, focusing on development, planning and control of industrial materials supply and distribution systems. The position involves managing and teaching courses and supervising students at all levels. It also requires participation in further development of the research group in production logistics, and its networks within academia and industry. It also includes applying for external funding. This subject area includes researching activities, resources and processes at a detailed operations level as well as their functions in supply chains and networks. New data and information technology developments, automation, as well as sustainability needs and circular material flows, are focused drivers and enablers of the future of this subject area. The position involves conducting empirical research of high international quality in interaction with various actors from industry. The research approach requires the applicant to interact closely with actors in industry and society, and be able to communicate scientific results, both to the public and industry and through leading academic journal publications.
Qualifications
You must hold a Ph.D. degree and possess research experience with primary focus in the area of the position, and a demonstrated ability to publish in high ranked journals relevant to the field. You must have a broad competence within the research area described above. Since we have a strong collaborative research culture, we look for a candidate who can contribute to the existing research focuses as well as develop new areas.
The division conducts education on both undergraduate and graduate level. For this reason, you must have substantial and well-documented pedagogical skills and we place equal importance on research and pedagogical merits. As such, we will place a great deal of emphasis on your pedagogical portfolio. You should have completed (or be able to complete within two years of an appointment) courses on teaching and learning in higher education (15 higher education credits). We are looking for a candidate with a good potential to lead and develop teaching and research, to supervise doctoral students, and to communicate and manage relationships with our external stakeholders.
The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Meritorious qualifications for the position are:
• Postdoctoral positions or correspondingly, especially at another institution or organization than where the doctoral studies were performed
• Experience of course development and management
• Academic publications in relevant journals
• Shown ability to attract external funding
• Participation in international research networks within the subject area
• Teamwork and collaboration skills to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and external partners
• Active engagement in the wider research community (e.g. reviewer for journals, arranging conferences and workshops, etc.).
• Sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish. If Swedish is not your native language, you are expected to learn Swedish within a few years.
