At the School of Education, Culture and Communication our students are studying to be for example preschool teachers, teachers, special needs teachers, communications officers, language consultants, mathematicians and chamber musicians. Here we have the research specialisations of Educational Sciences and Mathematics. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with preschools, schools, banks and companies, municipalities and public authorities in the region.

Position description
At MDH there is a lively environment in mathematics, including teaching and research oriented towards applied areas such as finance and engineering. We now want to further strengthen this direction by recruiting a senior lecturer specializing in mathematical statistics. The work assignments comprise:
• teaching in Mathematics on the first- and second-cycle levels within the University’s Financial Mathematics and Engineering Mathematics study programmes, as well as in other courses and study programmes at Mälardalen University where teaching in Mathematics is conducted,
• strengthening of school’s education and research environment in Mathematical Statistics, including the development of courses and study programmes,
• supervision of degree projects in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels,
• supervision of doctoral students, and
• strengthening research, research studies and interdisciplinary and international cooperation at the University.
It is also expected that a senior lecturer will be actively involved in applications for external funding for supporting research activities, individually and in cooperation with colleagues both internally and externally.
Qualification requirements
The qualification requirements for appointment as a Senior Lecturer are both documented teaching skills and also a degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic competence or other professional qualifications of significance with regard to the subject content of the appointment and the duties included in the appointment.
To be qualified for appointment as a Senior Lecturer the applicant must have demonstrated the academic skills and teaching abilities required for the appointment. Academic skills may also have been demonstrated by the ability to achieve results in research through cooperation in joint projects of benefit to academia and industry/the public sector/society in general and through the ability to disseminate research.
The assessment of teaching skills shall apply to the planning, carrying out and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination. Teaching skills shall be well documented in such a way that their quality can also be assessed.

Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria shall be based on the degree of skills required for the appointment. In general terms these assessment criteria shall include the ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to fulfil the duties well.
The same attention shall be paid to the assessment of teaching skills as to the assessment of academic skills.
Particular importance is attached to the applicant’s merits regarding:
• teaching and research in Mathematical Statistics and its applications in business and economics, actuarial mathematics, finance, industry and engineering;
• experience from work in the private sector with statistical analysis of real-life financial or industrial data.
The ability to teach in English is a requirement for this post. It is important that the applicant is able and willing to conduct and develop first- and second-cycle education in Mathematics, both for students with Mathematics as their main subject and for students in other subjects with varying study backgrounds and prerequisites.
Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organisation.
Merit
The ability to teach in Swedish is an advantage but not a requirement.
Merit is attached to ongoing active research and documented cooperation with colleagues in other subjects, which have resulted in joint research publications, documented active participation in the construction and development of research and education environment, as well as documented ability to attract external funding for research and education.
Merit is also attached to experience of development and programming of financial models and applications, e.g. in R and Python.
