The unit of occupational therapy (https://www.gu.se/en/neuroscience-physiology) has a creative research environment and broad collaboration with interprofessional research groups nationally and internationally. The research focuses on the relation of everyday activities to health throughout different age range, from children to the older persons. Research with groups at the unit are TIDAS research group focusing on adults with work related mental or physical illness and ProDo research group focusing on the process of doing among children, adolescents and adults with disabilities due to neurological problems. The unit also works closely with the research group FRESH, which focuses on health in everyday life among older persons. At the unit and in the research groups, we have doctoral students, junior and senior researchers with a broad expertise that includes knowledge of medicine-, health-, social- and occupational science, as well as the ability to conduct qualitative research, RCTs, epidemiological studies and instrument development.

Subject area description
Occupational therapy is based on occupational science that encompasses the knowledge and study of man in occupation and the ability to use time and environment in physical, social and cultural contexts. Furthermore, occupational science includes the knowledge of human engagement; the desire and ability to have and take control of life in the context of the surrounding society. The subject also includes knowledge about the importance of habits, life patterns and environment for activity. Based on the complex meaning of activity, occupational therapy relates to human, medical, social, natural and technological sciences.


Job assignments
The position includes working in an educational environment with a strong focus on student-centred learning. The main tasks consists of teaching in occupational therapy at the undergraduate, master and doctoral levels. The duties also include practical teaching in focus area related pediatric occupational therapy. The position entails course responsibility, planning, examination, administration and to stay updated in the development of knowledge in the area of occupational therapy. Teaching is held in both Swedish and English. The position also includes research in occupational therapy and applying for external research funding.


Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement.
Completed PhD degree with demonstrated scientific and teaching skills. Licence as a registered occupational therapist.


Assessment
In the first instance, scientific and pedagogical skills are judged to be valued equally. The scientific expertise is assessed by evaluating the quality of the applicant's publications in peer review reviewed journals, grants obtained in competition, being a research group leader or being involved in a research group. When assessing teaching expertise, consideration shall be given to the ability to plan, carry out, examine and evaluate teaching and supervision within the subject. The skill shall be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of teaching at undergraduate and/or advanced levels. Teaching and research in the field of habilitation of children and young adults is a merit.
Secondly, clinical expertise is assessed as a licensed occupational therapist in the field of pediatric occupational therapy.
Thirdly, the ability to teach at university level is assessed.
At the appointment, great importance will be attached to having good ability to cooperate in teaching teams and communicative skills with students in both the Swedish and English languages.

The employment is a full time permanent postion and is located at The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology.
