Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology conducts teaching and research within the field of pharmacology. At the Department there
is also a unit that conducts teaching and research within the field of pharmacy and pharmacotherapy. In total, approximately
45 people are employed at the Department, divided into 8-9 research groups. Traditionally, a lot of the research evolves
around neuropsychopharmacology, but also within the research areas of the peripheral nervous system, tropical diseases,
mechanisms of absorption and clinical pharmacotherapeutic applications. Teaching is conducted mainly at the medical and
pharmacy programs, but courses in pharmacology are also held within several other educational programs at the
Sahlgrenska Academy.

Subject area description
This position is within the field of pharmacology, i.e., the branch of medicine concerned with the effects and mechanisms of
medications. With respect to research, the holder of the position is expected to be specialized in basic pharmacology (rather
than, e.g., pharmacy or clinical pharmacology). For fulfilling his/her tasks with respect to teaching, the applicant should have
very good competence in general pharmacological principles, pharmacokinetics, and the effects, side effects, and
mechanisms of action of the different classes of medications.
Job assignments
Among the tasks to be conducted is teaching in pharmacology on basic and advanced levels within the pharmacy program,
dispenser program, and medical program. Also included are supervision and examination of students writing master theses.
The tasks also include conducting successful research, supervising PhD students, and applying for external research
funding.
The position will be combined with a leadership assignment including staff liability and external contacts.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the forms
of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
Doctoral degree, demonstrated pedagogical skills, basic training in pharmacy (Master Exam), demonstrated experience in
academic leadership including staff liability and ability to conduct teaching in Swedish are requierd.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher
Education Ordinance and the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
Pedagogical skills, scientific skills, and management skills will be equally valued.
For the assessment of pedagogical competence, the emphasis will be on documented experience of teaching and
examination in pharmacology on basic and advanced level. Course responsibility, course planning and pedagogical
development work are regarded as significant merits.
For the assessment of scientific competence, the emphasis will be on the quality of publications in peer-reviewed journals
and the ability to obtain extemal funding.
For the assessment of management skills, the emphasis will be on academic leadership assignments including staff liability.

The employment is a full time (100 %) permanent post and located at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting
