The Department of Physiology is a pre-clinical division that constitutes the complete environment for the subject of physiology within the Sahlgrenska Academy through its responsibility for teaching, research, and research training in this field.The department consists of units for neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, renal physiology, perinatal physiology, gastrointestinal physiology, as well as endocrine and metabolic physiology. It contains 23 research groups with 150 employees, of which approximately 35 are PhD students. The department is part of the Institute of neuroscience and physiology of the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

Subject area description
Physiology is the science of organ function, and cardiovascular physiology is the part that deals with the function of the heart and blood vessels. It comprises the study of the organs themselves, their function on the cellular level, and their function together with other parts of the body, primarily under normal conditions, but also as a background to understanding the pathogenesis of disease.


Job assignments
The duties of a senior lecturer in cardiovascular physiology comprise teaching and supervision on first-, second- and third-cycle study programmes, and research within the field. Teaching obligations include course leadership, course administration, and supervision of students on all levels. The job also entails participation in departmental duties such as administrative tasks, as well as staying updated on current developments in the field. Research obligations include actively pursuing external funding.


Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement.
Entry requirements are a doctoral degree and demonstrated pedagogical skills, and the ability to teach in Swedish and English.


Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement.
The basis of assessment is scientific expertise and pedagogic expertise alike. Administrative skills provide a useful qualification. Also the ability to collaborate will be weighed into the assessment.
The assessment of scientific expertise is primarily based on qualifications within the area of cardiovascular physiology. Importance is placed on e.g. publications within the subject area. Also the ability to obtain competitive research grants is significant.
In the assessment of pedagogical expertise emphasis is placed on demonstrated teaching skills, particularly within the subject area (preferably documented by e.g. excerpts from student questionnaires), as well as the ability to function as course coordinator and supervisor.

The employment is a full time permanent postion and is located at The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology.
