Our vision at the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics is better use of animal genetic resources. The department has 55 co-workers and is located at Ultuna Campus, Uppsala. We perform research and education in bioinformatics and in molecular and quantitative genetics and animal breeding. Bioinformatics is crucial for the analysis of data from projects sequencing different species' genome and transcription. With network analyses and visualisation of Big Data we structure and analyse data from next generation sequencing, proteomics and metabolomics. We are also studying different types of microbiota. We collaborate with researchers from SLU’s all faculties and international researchers, studying data from viruses, bacteria, nematodes, plants, wildlife, domestic animals and humans.
