Volvo Group Trucks Technology – Electromobility is the global, strategic center for Electromobility development within the Volvo Group directly reporting to EVP of GTT. By 2040 entire sales of Volvo Group vehicle shall be fossil free and already by 2030 the annual sale of Electric Trucks will be 100 000. Electromobility is key area for the Volvo Group to be in the forefront of environmentally friendly transport solutions for a more sustainable tomorrow.
Our team is a part of MDS (Motor Drive System) section which is responsible for development of electric motor drive systems for our BEV and Hybrid vehicles. Role description:


We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to our Electric Motor team. We see that you have broad experience from drive line development within automotive but main focus area will be on rotating parts of electric traction motor. This means that you will have responsibility for mechanical design of complete rotor. This includes design of rotor shaft and shaft splines interface to transmission, assembly of rotor lamination stacks to the shaft, dimensioning of bearings and more.


Preferably you have competence and/or experience with FEM simulations of rotating parts to make initial rough structural integrity check of the parts.


You will support the team when working with our suppliers, making sure the suppliers understand the technical requirements as well as understanding the needs of our customers. You will work with electric motors currently in development with our suppliers but also with new designs for the future. You will be part of the great supportive team and closely collaborate with team members and our lead engineers in creating the best designs for our electric motors.


We see also that you help test team to define test methods and use test data to improve the models for performance as well as for lifetime simulations (e.g. bearing life time). You will collaborate with other design, simulation and component teams within Electromobility.


You will take lead in secure cross-functional anchoring as well as support other engineers within the area when needed. Other important tasks are to identify and drive quality improvements and cost reduction activities.
Our planning and deliveries are steered by agile principles, and we actively work with the agile teams in JIRA backlog tool.


Prioritized experience and competence:
Motor/transmission shaft design
Bearing dimensioning and sealing
Press fit design for rotating parts
Background within Electric drivelines (e-motors and/or transmissions)
Experience from propulsion systems in battery electric vehicles
Relevant engineering education
Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written
CAD and simulation tools:
CREO
FEM tools (e.g. Ansys)

Relevant experience:
Volvo systems and processes
General cooling system
Communication with suppliers
