Arbetsbeskrivning
Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.
Since the beginning of the 2000s, Scania has had a joint venture with Cummins for the development and manufacturing of common-rail fuel systems. The production of these components is located in Juarez, Mexico, and Södertälje. Product development has primarily taken place in Columbus, USA, but since the autumn of 2017 we now also have product development and product support for our fuel systems in Södertälje.
Your role
As a Senior Product Engineer, you will apply specialized knowledge of engineering principles and practices across various areas and projects in the design, development, analysis, and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle. You will help verify design using analysis and or functional testing, interpret results, drive decisions and assess risk. Working with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues. Evaluate customer needs and align requirements with identified customer expectations, you will perform a central coordinating role working in our current product support team. You will connect a large network of stakeholders within Scania and also within the global Cummins Fuel Systems organization. You will work closely with the Engineering Q-team where the analysis of customer returns and warranty investigations are performed. We are continuously working to improve the quality of our products and processes to help our end customers resolve any discrepancies or requests for product changes.
Key responsibilities
Your main task will be to locally support the Cummins Product Quality and Compliance process (PQC process) in our organization. PQC is the equivalent of the FQ process used at Scania R&D. In other words a process that responds to quality deviations that appear at one of our customers where we see a need for a project that aims to understand and improve the quality of the product. In summary, you will:
• Apply technical expertise on complex components or projects with minimal supervision.
• Lead small projects or portions of large projects.
• Provide technical direction for a project or a project team.
• Participate as a key contributor, accountable for project success.
• Influence decisions, by providing input at the department or program management level.
• Propose innovative initiatives and projects.
• Troubleshoot complex problems and recommend appropriate actions.
• Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.
As we are continuing to grow our local R&D department, several new projects or assignments may also come your way. You will have a great chance to develop your skills and directly impact the quality of our products.
Your profile
To thrive and do well in this position, you must be structured, like building and nurturing relationships, and collaborative and analytical. You should have the ability to think creatively and be independent and communicative. Previous knowledge of our fuel system or engine development is advantageous. We use common problem-solving techniques such as 8-D, 7-step, and above all FTA (fault tree analysis) in all of our projects and you will be required to master these practices.
You should have a university degree in engineering with a technical basis, alternatively project management. Your English and Swedish skills are proficient. It is also an advantage if you have previously worked in a role where you have had active involvement in FQ projects or other large/medium Product Development Projects.
You will be a key player at Cummins Scania XPI Engineering. Our success is based on our core values and our choice to do things the “Scania way”. We always strive for diversity, openness, respect for the individual, team spirit, and flexibility.
