Schibsted User Foundations is hiring a Product Manager/Senior Product Manager to our Payment Gateway team. This is a new role in the team with potential for product leadership, strategy, stakeholder communication and hands-on product management responsibilities.
The Payment Gateway team have over the years developed and operated a payment platform serving the Schibsted brands and their users with a unified, low-friction B2C payment solution. On top of that, the team makes sure that our integrations with payment partners stay up to date and compliant with regulatory obligations. In short, you could say that our goal is that our stakeholder brands across Schibsted should not have to spend time focusing on their payment set-up. Payment Gateway is used across our media and marketplace brands in Norway and Sweden.
With subscriptions and ecommerce continuing to grow exponentially in the Nordics, and with the array of payment methods in front of users and brands growing at a similar rate, Schibsted is investing into our Payment Gateway team with ambitious plans for future growth anchored in the current and future needs of users and of our brands. We intend to take advantage of the dynamism and energy of the payments space to foster radical innovation in this team, using that to better serve our brands and their users.
As a product manager in a team comprised of you and one other product manager, you will work together in a functional triangle with engineering and design teams. Together, you will create an experience of the transactional user journey within Schibsted’s products that is centred on the user’s needs. You will also use your experience and communication skills to collaborate with the family of Schibsted brands, both by identifying and solving business problems connected with transactions in the user journey. This role will report to the Director of Product within the User Foundations group in Schibsted. You can learn more about User Foundations on our team website here.
To do this, you’ll need to be able to inspire your team with passion and energy for both our users, our brands and the payments domain. You’ll need to be able to train new product managers on how to work within modern empowered product teams. You’ll also need to be able to lead and influence at senior levels, communicating with the highest clarity about strategy, mission, objectives, priorities and the results your team will achieve. You’ll need to simplify the potentially complex challenges in the payments space for our users and for our brands. And you’ll need to be able to influence and persuade our brands, through both words and actions, to trust your team to tackle thorny problems together with them.
The role will report to the Director of Product for User Foundations within the Schibsted Product and Tech Foundations team.
Your responsibilities include
- Defining, anchoring and sustaining awareness of a product strategy for your team with senior leaders across Schibsted, including our partners in brand teams such as VG.no or Blocket.se.
- Engaging with senior stakeholders on a regular basis - gathering input, communicating progress, setting expectations and anchoring decisions
- Simplifying the challenges posed to the business by the various privacy regimes we operate with into pragmatic solutions that keep the user as their primary focus
- Formulating challenging and realistic Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) with their team and achieving these
- Applying and developing empowered product team practices to achieve those objectives
- Participating in the hiring, training, inspiring, coaching and managing other product managers
- Contributing to the larger User Foundations management and leadership team
Requirements
- 2 years of Product Management experience from the consumer-facing technology, payments, media or online marketplace sectors
- Proven track record of launching API and SDK-based products that solve user and business problems.
- An educational background and preferably some work experience that includes significant information technology/coding exposure
- Experience in an agile development environment, alongside work within an empowered product team with a high degree of autonomy in decision-making
- Experience with experimenting to gather necessary user data, as well as utilizing this data as insights to make informed decisions.
- Demonstrable leadership skills, ideally within a product management context. Other leadership contexts will also be viewed positively.
- Insight into the challenges posed by payments and transaction fulfillment and other privacy regimes (e.g. iOS), as demonstrated through products and services you’ve worked to deliver and where you can clearly describe how you influenced how the team tackled these challenges.
- Proven stakeholder management skills with experience presenting and evangelising to all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to travel occasionally to meet stakeholders and team members in any of our countries of operation (Denmark, as well as Finland, Norway, Poland and Sweden).
User Foundations is in expansion mode, growing to meet the demands of our users, brands and regulators for easier log-in, higher security, faster payments, greater transparency and simpler controls over what happens with their data.
