ABOUT THE ROLE?



At AstraZeneca we are treating Scientific Computing as a strategic asset underpinning our advances in science. Leading-edge research strategies critically depend on best in class Computing capabilities. We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious and independently working Scientific Computing engineer to join our global team.



Main Duties & Responsibilities:



The Scientific Computing Platform (SCP) is AstraZeneca's state-of-the-art computing environment to pursue todays and tomorrows in-silico challenges. It strongly focuses on a platform concept, building capabilities and services around central building blocks. At its heart it uses 3 compute environments, a classical InfiniBand/Slurm HPC cluster, an OpenStack private cloud as well as various public cloud for elasticity and scale. To exploit these resource pools most optimally, the SCP is deploying strong DevOps tooling and cloud native technologies. It seeks to adjust and adapt according to changing requirements and follow the science.



The engineers and architects in the SCP team are key to continuously deliver and support this critical capability. We are operating the SCP as a single global team with shared responsibilities. You will be joining an agile and hardworking team of technologists who share excitement for High-Performance & Big Compute, modern technology stacks and their application in science to change the life of patients. Living and breathing technology is a key factor to enable us to keep pace with the life changing ideas of the scientists.



As a Project Manager aligned to the SCP Platform Team, you will ensure delivery aligns to the vision and business strategy, and that true business value is delivered to the customer as a result. Having a strong partnership with the business customer driving the demand for the solution is critical to success in this role.



The role views process as guidance and looks for innovative means to expedite delivery. You must ensure that delivery occurs with a sense of urgency and can be completed within the approved programme/project budget and timelines, whilst continuously assessing risk and balancing the need for flexibility and agility with conformance to standard methods and tools. Focus areas include stakeholder management across Business, IT, and partners, risk management and delivery of business benefit.



Experience in the following areas will be key:

* Science, Technical or Business degree or equivalent years of experience
* Signifigant Project Management or Release Train Engineer experience, ideally in a Pharmaceutical IT environment (with experience of GxP and validation desirable)
* Blue-chip or multinational company experience (within Infrastructure and Data Migration experience preferred)
* Experience of working in a DevOps team and agile delivery experience
* Previous experience of a Release Train Engineer role advantageous to help coordinate status and delivery of platform deliveries/workstreams. Identify / manage dependencies between platform deliveries
* Proven large complex IT solution delivery skills and experience, in the following areas: delivering, leading and controlling large agile deliveries (managing platform and project backlogs and plans and maintaining a plan on page; co-ordinating and tracking deliverables and tasks from multiple delivery teams to achieve a single goal; managing platform level budgets (~$5million or greater); management of risks and issues/point of escalation; ability to apply change management and generate status reports to support effective decisions and platform/project reporting to stakeholders and review boards
* Development of IT quality documentation management
* Coordinate status and delivery of project workstreams. Identify / manage dependencies between projects (intra-program and across portfolio).
* You will have a sense of ownership and enterprise leadership to deliver high quality solutions that solve business problems
* Experience of producing status updates for and chairing Steering Committee meetings and reporting to Senior Leads
* Ability to convey complex messages to stakeholders at all levels
* Demonstratable benefits management/reporting experience
* Understanding and experience of MS Project and JIRA (and metrics reporting)
* Experience of SNOW PPM for resource and cost tracking is desirable
* Experience of LEAN principles and their practical application to measurably improve processes is desirable
* Experience of working with external vendors and onshore and offshore suppliers
* Experience working in a global organization and across cultural boundaries
