Sandvik Mining is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a leading global supplier of equipment and tools, service and technical solutions for the mining industry. The offering covers rock drilling, rock cutting, rock crushing, loading and hauling and materials handling.
Sandvik Mining, R&D Hard Materials is a development center for hard materials and their use in mining applications considering: manufacturing processes, material properties, behavior during use and new product possibilities. We work primarily with the development and improvement of cemented carbide and other hard materials. We have a broad overview of materials development within our field. We are now looking for a Development Engineer who can work in a structured way and take the initiative.
The position will be based in Västberga, Stockholm.
Key performance areas
In our team today we have scientists with PhDs, engineers, technicians and operators. As a Development Engineer you will have primary responsibility in the development workflow for new materials and grades, equipment and development of quality control systems for the introduction of new materials and processes. Primarily you will work in project form and be part of a team consisting of development engineers and technicians. You will report to the team manager.
Your profile
You have a Master's or PhD in Engineering with a focus on materials science. Alternatively, you may have equivalent scientific education. Education focused on super hard materials and cemented carbides is advantageous, as is experience from simulation and thermodynamic calculations Experience with SEM surveys and EBSD is valued, as well as work experiences from processing industries and quality control work. Language skills in English, both verbal and written, are required.
You need to have good social skills and the ability to establish good relationships with customers and with other development organizations within Sandvik. You will work in networks with universities, research centers and other businesses. The position requires good pedagogical ability because you will meet people with different backgrounds and very different theoretical experience.
As practical work is an integrated aspect of this position, you need to willingly take the initiative, and be both quality-conscious and responsible. Sometimes you have to find new ways to solve a problem and develop new guidelines.
