New technologies emerge on the market as we speak, and right now the industry considers near net shape technologies such as Additive Manufacturing (AM) and Metal Injection Molding (MIM) to be some of the disruptive frontrunners. The core of these new manufacturing technologies lies in the metal powder, which is also labeled a ‘recognized sustainable manufacturing technology’. With this comes, naturally, an increasing demand for metal powder – a demand that’s expected to continue growing.
Our Powder R&D department is responsible for creating a foundation for continuous improvements and innovations within powder alloy development and for optimizing our processes within powder manufacturing in alignment with our customers’ demands and challenges. We’re now looking for a Senior R&D Engineer with proven skills within the powder metallurgy area to join our team, in a position where you make a true impact on our operations by working both hands-on and on a strategic level!
Your mission – creating powerful synergies by bringing your expertise to the table
In this role, you’re responsible for setting a structure for gathering and securing knowledge within material development of new powder-based alloys. You add value with your extensive knowledge in the area by taking an active part in alloy development at our production sites in Sandviken and Wales, and by participating in lab testing and customer visits to conduct field testing of our offerings. You represent and present Sandvik in conferences, forums and webinars and you continuously expand on your own knowledge, as you capture and develop new ideas and apply them in a way that adds value to the business.
This position is located in Sandviken, with some global travel as a natural part of the assignment.
Your character – a proactive doer with the ability to turn complex theories into practice
We’re looking for someone with several years’ hands-on experience in materials research and proven competency within powder metallurgy. You have a degree in Material Science (preferably a PhD), in Powder Metallurgy, Physics or a similar field, and experience of working with computational tools for materials and alloy design is considered a plus. As we operate in a global environment, digital literacy, remote working and effective communication is in your second nature, as well as a proven efficiency in English and Swedish, both in written and verbal form.
We’re fascinated by your social skills and your ability to thrive on constantly evolving your knowledge and mindset; challenging both yourself and the organization. You’re genuinely interested in the area and keeping track of what’s going on in the industry comes naturally to you – allowing you to always stay ahead of the game. Being a true team player, you act as a role model by sharing insights and best practices to develop both the team and the business in the right direction. As you interact and lead projects with many different stakeholders, both internally and externally, you understand the importance of clear communication and building trustworthy and long-lasting relationship.
