Arbetsbeskrivning
Right now, Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology and division Rock Tools is looking for an experienced and business-minded R&D Engineer to work with our top hammer products. Are you eager to develop the next generation of our solutions, explore how we can commercialize our work and join forces with our customers to find the best results? Then we really want to meet you!
R&D is the soul of our work, as we deliver cutting edge products and solutions to our mining and construction customers across the globe. This job is a great chance to learn and share knowledge - in a diverse setting where collaboration, flexibility and customer focus really matter. By bringing revolutionary thinking, trying new ideas and creatively challenge what we already know, we’re ready to shape the future of this industry.
About the job
As Senior R&D Engineer, you’re part of our Product Development TH Tools team, and we play a key role in ensuring increased performance of our products, as well as adding true value for all customers using them. You identify, develop and utilize experimental and numerical methods within top hammer rock drilling applications, which is an- important factor for us to stay successful in our product development. The experimental part of your job includes developing and performing measurements in a controlled lab environment, as well as in field applications. You use FEM simulations – such as stress wave analysis, non-linear dynamic analysis, fatigue and structural optimization - and other analytical methods to design and evaluate the experimental set-up, and to optimize the performance of our products. You also actively engage in finding new measuring methods and looking at improvements in our current processes – all in line with customer and market demands.
We operate in a complex setting with many interfaces, where strong collaboration is central. For us this means sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, inspiring others and showing true team spirit. You make sure to keep all our stakeholders in the loop, and not to forget your close interactions with both local and global R&D teams. For this job, we need you to be based in Sandviken and some planned travel may occur.
About you
We think that you have a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics or another similar area, combined with a few years’ from working in the field. You have both knowledge and practical experience of working with solid mechanics and measurements using strain gauges. This means that you’re skilled in identifying opportunities, and in understanding the usefulness of numerical and experimental methods within product development. A Ph.D. and a background within percussive rock drilling applications is a clear advantage. Acting in our global environment, you also need to communicate fluently in English, while knowledge of Swedish is beneficial.
You have a curious and analytical mind, and you thrive when you get to solve a proper problem by trying out different solutions – aiming for the highest quality and the best end result. You dig deep to understand how we can improve the customer experience, see a challenge as something positive, and know how to structure and prioritize to make things happen. On top of this, you’re always looking to educate yourself and acquire new knowledge, and you happily share your findings with people around you to lift the competence of our entire organization.
