About the role:
‘In Situ’ is the “new” buzzword in Spatial Biology research. In situ analysis of hundreds of genes in all individual cells within intact tissue samples is going to be a major game changer for biology research, medicine and the future of diagnostics.
Our R&D team in Stockholm, Sweden:
You will be working within a great team of about 25 people in Stockholm which continues to grow rapidly. Everybody is motivated to work together for researching and developing the next generation of in situ analysis technology in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
As a Senior Research Associate you will work in our wet lab and you will work closely together with your colleagues in the Molecular Biology department in Pleasanton (US). Next to that you will work closely with scientists in the Assay Development team to design and perform experiments, analyze and discuss the data and contribute to create and optimize new and innovative spatial transcriptomic products.
You have an educational background in one or more of the following disciplines: molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field, and have experience with state-of-the-art spatial transcriptomic assays, tissue samples processing and fluorescence microscopy.
What you will be doing:
● Support the development and optimization of novel in situ assays
● Plan and perform in situ experiments on a variety of cell and tissue samples
● Fluorescent microscopy imaging of the processed samples, and image data pre-processing
● Work closely with computational biologists to interpret data generated by novel and optimized assay schemes
● Write protocols and maintain accurate records
● Communicate and present results clearly in internal meetings and contribute data for making critical design decisions
To be successful, you will need:
● MSc, or equivalent, in molecular biology, biochemistry or a closely related field
● Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques such as in situ hybridization techniques (FISH, RNAscope, in situ hybridization,...) and/or immune-staining on tissue sections
● Familiarity with microscopy skills, including immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry
● Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
● Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, which requires real-time communication, flexibility, working well with others, and a willingness to learn new techniques and methods
Additionally, we’d like to see:
● Tissue handling experience (fresh frozen, FFPE, cryosectioning, antigen retrieval,...)
● Fluorescent microscopy experience (epi-fluorescence or confocal)
● Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques such as sample preparation, nucleic acid amplification and purification (RNA/DNA), qPCR, and DNA sequencing
● Strong organizational skills and ability to plan and structure your work
It would be advantageous if you had:
● Previous work experience from similar positions in industry
● Experience with image analysis software (e.g. CellProfiler, ImageJ) or data analysis
