Information about the project and the division
We are advertising a position for a Senior Research Engineer to join our team in the field of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. You will be working in a stimulating environment of the Systems and Synthetic Biology Division pursuing your own independent research in an interdisciplinary and international environment, applying and developing new synthetic biology tools for drug screening, discovery and production.
The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research groups in systems and synthetic biology. Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of new cell factories.
Job description
The position is in the field of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. You will be using cutting edge synthetic biology techniques to engineer yeast towards a next generation drug discovery platform. Major responsibilites include the development of novel synthetic biology tools and conducting of high throughput screens. Your work involves independently designing and conducting new research projects, and communicating your results within an international and multidisciplinary research environment. In addition you might act as supervisor for post-doctoral students, PhD students working in related projects in the group.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position you should have a PhD degree in a biological field with a strong background in yeast genetic and metabolic engineering. Extensive postdoctoral experience (minimum 4 years) is required including research in yeast synthetic biology, metabolic engineering and drug discovery and production in a microbial context. You must have strong skills in metabolic engineering, molecular biology, flowcytometry, development of intracellular biosensors for drug discovery applications, HPLC, GC-MS and LC-MS. You should also have some experience with CRISPR technologies, error prone PCR and fermentation.
You must have good oral and written communication skills in English, and be capable in independently writing scientific papers and grant applications.
