Job description
The position will primarily act as the technical liaison and project engineer for projects Stiftelsen Chalmers Industriteknik is involved in with the Onsala Space Observatory (OSO). The main focus will be working on the Square Kilometer Array Telescope (SKA) single pixel receiver (digitiser) and band 1 feed projects involving the Onsala Space Observatory and other organizations. In her/his role the position will keep informed of and provide technical and project expert advice on the SKA projects the OSO is involved in, as well as attend and when needed arrange meetings and report progress. The position will also take an active role in developing digital processing expertise and systems at the OSO, involving digital backends, RFI signal monitoring and wideband signal processing, and is expected to propose, lead and supervise projects in this area. The appointed person will also contribute to parallel developments at the Observatory related to deploying ultra-wide band and multi-band receivers and digital systems, and provide supervision and expertise in the development, construction and testing of hardware, firmware and software.
Position summary: The position is a full-time temporary employment between 1 Feb 2021 and 1 Feb 2022.
Qualifications
To fil the position the successful candidate must have the following qualifications and experience:
- A higher degree (Masters or PhD) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Radio Communications or similar.
- Knowledge and extensive experience in managing projects and developing instruments for centimetre wavelength radio-astronomy telescopes.
- Demonstrated experience with all phases of the development life-cycle, including concept, preliminary and detailed design, as well as testing, systems integration and acceptance.
- Solid interpersonal skills and will have worked with and managed international development teams working on multi-national collaborative projects.
- At least 20 years of knowledge of and experience with developing radio-astronomy sub-systems such antennas, wide-band single pixel feeds, phased array feeds, low noise amplifiers, downconverters, RF over fibre and digital links, signal conditioning systems, and analog to digital converters, as well as digital signal processing, beamforming, and back-end data collection and real-time observing control systems and software. Preference will be given to those with experience working on the SKA project.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English including the ability to write technical reports and other documents to a high standard.
