Information about the division and the department
The Chalmers Mass Spectrometry Infrastructure (CMSI) is a Chalmers infrastructure with the goal of providing cutting edge and efficient quantitative and qualitative mass spectrometry services for the Swedish research community. The services provided by CMSI range from targeted analysis of individual biomolecules to large-scale lipidomics and metabolomics using both targeted, semi-targeted and untargeted methods. Presently CMSI team includes six highly skilled staff members and an instrument park including both basic and state-of-the-art advanced mass spectrometers, and in 2022 CMSI has contributed to reseach projects from 84 Principal investigators. In addition, CMSI collaborates closely with research groups focusing on development and use of these techniques and with the Chalmers Computational Systems Biology infrastructure with competence in bioinformatics and data science. CMSI is also part of national infrastructure networks, including the Biological Mass Specromery Infrastructure (BioMS) and the SciLifeLab Metabolomics Platform.
Major responsibilities
As a Senior Research Engineer at CMSI, your main responsibility will lie in development, application and data delivery in computational mass spectrometry and metabolomics data analysis. As part of the CMSI team, you will be responsible for planning, leading and executing metabolomics projects at the platform. You will be involved in communication with infrastructure end-users and collaborators, participate in experimental design and secure delivery of reproducible data and data-analytical results. You will contribute to projects and to the team with expert knowledge in data science and computations. Depending on your scientific interest, there are also opportunities for hands-on laboratory work with high-end mass spectrometers. While your work mainly consists of providing excellent, high quality research support, you will also have the possibility to engage in research focusing on development of existing and new services. You will seek to continuously improve existing workflows together with our bioinformatics collaborators and relevant national infrastructures in metabolomics and bioinformatics.

To qualify for this position you should have...
- Expert skills in programming (e.g. R, Python, C, Java) including the ability to conduct independent development of data-analytical pipelines
- Experience in processing of ´omics´ data, preferably metabolomics
- Drive to conduct scientific projects together with a continuous development mindset
- Experience in project management and working in scientific environments
- Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills
- Genuine interest in delivering excellent scientific services
