Umeå University - with its 29,000 students and over 4,000 employees - is an organisation in constant change and development. The university's researchers carry out excellence within several areas of research, and many of them are among the world's elite. We are one of Sweden's largest providers of education and offer a broad and attractive range of courses and programmes. Our campus constitutes an inspiring environment for everyone that studies and works here.We wish to co-operate with companies and organisations throughout the Umeå region and all over the world.Senior Research Engineer in Developmental Biology at Umeå Centre for Molecular Medicine (UCMM).UCMM is an interdisciplinary research centre using basic research approaches to study areas of biological and medical relevance.See www.ucmm.umu.se.The position is for two years with the possibility for extension.Admission as soon as possible after agreement.Information from our surroundings is transmitted by specific sensory neurons in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) to the central nervous system (CNS).To understand how these neural circuits function, we need to understand how they are assembled and how the different cell types are generated. The olfactory and lens placodes contribute to the special sense organs the olfactory epithelium and the lens in the PNS.One interesting characteristic of the olfactory epithelium and lens is that stem and progenitor cells in these structures will proliferate and differentiate into mature sensory cells throughout life.See www.ucmm.umu.se/research/lena/index.html The studies will include classical developmental biology and molecular genetic methods. The major aim is to understand the molecular mechanisms controlling the progression of stem and progenitor cells to differentiated sensory cells.Besides research activities within the lab, the successful applicant will participate in the supervision and training of junior staff members. The ideal candidate will have obtained a Ph.D.in cell/molecular biology or developmental biology.A thorough theoretical and practical grounding in developmental biology, molecular and cell biology is required. An international postdoctoral training in the field of Developmental Biology or Molecular Biology is a merit. The applicant should be proficient in written and spoken English and have good organizational, record keeping and problem solving skills.A completed application for the position should include: 1.A single page (A4) describing your research interest, experience and suitability for the position.2.Methods that you control 3.Curriculum Vitae 4.Names and contact information of 2 referees together with copies of relevant qualifications. For further information, please contact Dr.
