Senior Research Fellow with an urban focus

Nordregio is currently seeking one or two Senior Research Fellows fluent in both a Nordic language and English to join our team. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful research and analysis on key topics in regional development and planning. For these positions, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise and interest in one or more of the following key topics:
Urban governance and development
Social inclusion and segregation
Transport and mobility
Green perspectives on urban development
Housing
Urban-rural linkages
Resilience planning
Requirements
The position as Senior Research Fellow requires a doctoral degree. The degree should be in a discipline aligned with at least one of the research fields above (e.g. planning, urban studies, geography, economics, political science, sociology, or similar).
· Senior Research Fellows are expected to have at least two years of relevant experience in research or practice post-graduation.
Candidates should demonstrate an interest in developing new research perspectives, building research networks with external partners, and securing funding.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to take a creative approach to complex problems.
Highly motivated with the ability to work independently, as well as the skills to work effectively in a cooperative research environment.
Well-developed communication skills including the ability to network and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and partner organizations.
Fluent in English and a Nordic language.
The geographic scope of your fields of interest includes in-depth knowledge of at least one Nordic country as well as a pan-European perspective.
Ability and willingness to contribute to Nordregio’s commitment to fostering a supportive and equitable workplace.
Main Work Tasks
· Independently lead and participate in research projects, including supervising junior staff and disseminating Nordregio research.
· Develop new research perspectives and lead funding applications, including establishing research networks with external partners.
What we offer
The position starts as soon as possible - or subject to agreement. Nordregio offers contracts with a maximum length of four years. Subject to further agreement, the contract can be extended for up to four additional years. If you are currently employed by the State in a Nordic country, you are entitled to a leave of absence from your present position for the duration of your employment at Nordregio according to the agreement “Avtale om rettstilling for samnordiske institusjoner og deres ansatte”. Candidates relocating from another Nordic country to Sweden are offered a relocation package as well as a monthly salary addition.
