AstraZeneca is committed to the development of the next generation innovative respiratory medicines. The Medicinal Chemistry department in the therapeutic area of Respiratory & Immunology is focused on the delivery of Small Molecule (SM) and New Modalities (NM) clinical candidates.
Our Physical and Analytical Chemistry team, embedded in Medicinal Chemistry, is crucial for the delivery of clinical compounds, working with a strong research focus in close collaboration with Medicinal and Computational Chemists and other scientists in neighboring functions. We jointly aim at the discovery of the respiratory medicines of the future.
Job description
We are looking for a candidate with a very strong background in Analytical Chemistry and documented expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry. In this role, the candidate will support drug discovery projects with state-of-the art analytical chemistry, mainly by LC/MS, in a timely manner. As an experienced analytical scientist, the candidate will demonstrate the ability to independently analyze and communicate results, and to engage and collaborate across boundaries with a problem-solving attitude and delivery focus.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
* Lab-based research position, independently analyzing and reporting analytical results into project teams. Strong research focus!
* Analysis of novel compounds by U(H)PLC/HRMS methods in an efficient and timely manner, including In-depth characterization of in-vivo compounds by MS/MS
* Supporting Medicinal Chemistry teams with relevant analytical profiling of intermediates and final compounds
* Collaborative mindset, within the analytical team and with colleagues in other disciplines and functions
Requirements and Qualifications
* PhD in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent experience
* Theoretical in-depth knowledge and practical expertise in mass spectrometry and method development for U(H)PLC/MS
* Strong scientific curiosity in novel applications and new technology related to analytical chemistry
* Experience from time-of-flight MS and Q-TOF MS instrumentation is a merit
* Demonstrated expertise in structural elucidation by MS/MS is a merit.
* Experience from automation of analytical workflows is a merit
* Track record of successful cross-functional collaborations is a merit
