Research and Technology Development is a global function within the Quality and Engineering organisation that have responsibility for the technology development portfolio as well as being the interface for development collaborations outside Volvo. We are now looking for someone who can lead our research and technology development in the area of Digital operations
Main areas of responsibility
As a senior researcher within the area of Digital operation you will have a responsibility to drive and facilitate the Volvo operations towards the future where we are using the Digital operation to enable a sustainable production prepared to manage our new products. The focus area will be the virtual tools ensuring that the engineers know the performance of our new products and production system before it is introduced.
We also have a strong link to the digitalization of running production where we are moving towards a Smart and connected operation enabling Realtime management and autonomous decision in the right areas using IoT and data analytics as enablers. Additive manufacturing is an area with high potential and strong impact for the group.
We grow the critical competences by building value constellation inside and outside of the company to ensure solutions are generating value for Volvo. Externally collaboration needs to be maintained with universities, government and our current partners but also developed and scouting for new partners and solutions needed for the Volvo industrial strategic development. You will report directly to the Director Research and Technology Development.
As a Senior researcher Digital Operation, your main responsibilities will be to:
Drive and facilitate Technology development for the Volvo Group Truck Operations including but not limited to Virtual Manufacturing, Digital Twin, additive manufacturing, and digital interfaces in operation.
Lead the development of the Roadmap for Digital Operation for GTO. Including calibration and anchoring in the organization and a good amount of challenging to ensure crucial pace is maintained
Contribute as a member of the R&TD team.
Frequent exchange with Global development within Volvo as well as regional and local needs and deployments to align Volvo TD portfolio with external opportunities.
Ensure that Volvo engagement is high enough with our external partners to ensure maximal value is captured, spread developed concepts or solutions from external concept to Volvo group stakeholders cross-functionally to generate value.
Realize opportunities by merging needs, solutions and resources ensuring value for all partners is met.
Represent Volvo GTO with external partners as well public funding bodies to quide the public strategic agenda for industry meets Volvo need.
You are expected to learn new skills and competences both on the job and by direct educations.
Who are you?
This role will be essential for the Research and technology development within GTO. It will also be a key contributor to the transformation of our industrial system. It is therefore crucial that you have a business understanding to see what critical actions are needed. It will be important that you have the capacity to see the common thread and can identify what needs to be done and make priorities as well as seizing opportunities when they emerge.
It is important that you quickly can understand the technologies needed and of value for our Digital operation with an eye on how it is done today to understand how it could be done tomorrow
We do value experience in all kind of partnerships, public private, joint venture and/or big industry and SME. But specially the research collaboration in Sweden and Europe will be an important enabler
Qualifications and background to your favor:
PhD or M.Sc. or similar
Public Private Partnership experience
Previous experience from manufacturing/production and I4.0 is meritorious
Strong Communication skills, negotiation and problem-solving skills
Innovation and solution deployment experience
Has an existing wide network inside and outside Volvo group Volvo
Can work well in autonomy
Has a Maker approach, like challenges
