The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 9 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.
Division
The Division of Clinical Microbiology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine currently has two research groups in clinical bacteriology and five research groups in clinical virology.
The research in clinical virology is focused on chronic viral infections such as HIV, hepatitis B, C and D, as well as Crim-Congo, Ebola and Zika virus.
The Department is one of the most educational intensive at Karolinska Institutet, and the Division of Clinical Microbiology plays a central role in primary education for doctors, biomedical analysts (BMAs), nurses, dental hygienists and dentists.
Duties
The candidate is expected to perform independent and collaborative research in the area of multi-omics with the focus on genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics studies of HIV and HCV infection. Experience both in molecular genetics (including NGS) and in computational biology is crucial for conducting current project. Also capability to perform assessments of antiviral drugs is essential. Experience is also needed in collaboration within international consortia with involvement of academic and industrial partners. The candidate will be in charge of generating and analysis of RNA seq, proteomics and metabolomics data and in supervising of postdocs and PhD students for the current projects in the group.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.
In addition to this, displayed pedagogical proficiency or other related skills that are relevant to the appointment's duties may be required to be eligible.
Bases of assessment
The applicant must hold a PhD or an equal qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate as well as been experienced in multi-omics study, including, but not limited to high throughput sequencing methods, different method of proteomics analysis, targeted and untargeted metabolomics studies. Also he/she should have a deep knowledge in assessment of antiviral drugs.
Applicants should be established and conduct internationally leading research in the field, have good documented cooperation and leadership skills and experience in translational research in a clinical environment. As a main applicant, the applicant must have obtained national or international research funding in the subject of competition and have the potential to secure further funding in the area. The applicant should also have experience with the supervision of doctoral students for the dissertation.
We stress scientific expertise and academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellence in research in HIV-infection area. Candidate should have proven his/her independence with several last/senior authored paper as well as major research grant as PI. Strong communication and collaborative skills will be preferable during assessment.
