ESS is now looking for a Senior RF Engineer for the RF Section/Accelerator Division organised within the Machine Directorate. The RF Section is responsible for for defining, designing, installing, commissioning and finally for operating and maintaining the RF systems and amplifiers required for the accelerator and test stands at ESS.
Job description
Your main responsibilities will be to manage and supervise installation, testing and initial operation of the RF systems for one or more sections linac.
In this role you will take responsibility for the coordination of complete RF systems for one or more sections of the linac. This will involve working closely with the different technical disciplines including LLRF, interlock systems and the high power amplifiers. The role will initially focus on installation activities, initial test and commissioning of the systems and will later extend to operation with beam. Additionally, you may be asked to act as a deputy to the RF Section Leader and Work Package Manager.
Your main areas of responsibilities as a Senior RF Engineer will be to:
• Manage and supervise installation, testing and initial operation of the RF systems for one or more sections linac
• May be asked to act as deputy and support to the RF Section Leader and Work Package Manager;
• Manage installation of future systems and RF projects to improve performance and reliability;
• Identify and manage several projects to improve performance and reliability of ESS;
• Assist with planning and budgeting for assigned projects;
• Oversee and plan for operational and shut down activities;
• Work with and direct In-Kind partners and industry;
• Carry out system testing and fault finding;
Qualifications:
As a senior member of the RF Section, you have a broad background in several disciplines relevant for RF systems as well as experience of installation, commissioning and operation of high power RF systems for accelerators. The subsystems include LLRF, high power sources, solid state amplifiers, RF distribution, phase reference lines, power supplies and auxiliary systems, interlock systems and controls. Educated to a high academic level e.g. a PhD, you have a minimum of 5 year’s experience relevant to the role since your highest degree. Ideally you have theoretical and practical experience with accelerator design, in particular where relevant to the interactions of the RF systems, accelerating structures and the beam.
Work Experience
• Experience with complex high power RF systems preferably with an accelerator background;
• Hands-on experience with design, test and operation;
• Several year’s proven experience of managing projects, line management or supervision of a relevant technical nature.
Experience of working in an international environment is essential. Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite (and knowledge of Swedish would be an advantage).

• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.
Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
